rising star featured agent

N N O I L C T O I L N E G 14 • December 2023

Written by: Jamie Taylor Photography by: Bryant Sanders

MyPhilly.House at Compass RE In two short years, Nicole Nolting has taken the world of real estate by storm. She’s built her success through the admiral practice of always putting people over profit, with a solid understanding that when you lead with good intentions and hard work, rewards will follow on their own. Nicole is originally from Washington DC, and she moved to Philadelphia to study marketing and digital communications at Saint Joseph’s University. Her time there won her over to the city, and she decided to plant permanent roots in the community. After purchasing her first home, Nicole set her sights on a REALTOR® career path, knowing that she could lean into her marketing skills to help her grow her business, and she was confident that her experience of being raised in a family of investors would also uniquely position her to conquer the industry. “I grew up managing properties and portfolios, so it naturally made sense for me to acquire my real estate license,” she explains. It’s fair to say that things have come full circle for Nicole, considering that she now primarily works with investors, and one of her favorite aspects of collaborating with her clients is being able to help them realize their goals through the acquisition of properties that are in dire need of rejuvenation. “... It takes some imagination at times. It’s an amazing process, seeing a diamond in the rough come to life,” she explains. In addition to tapping into her creative side, Nicole says networking and maintaining deep connections with her current contacts are practices that make a huge impact on her business. “I have clients who call me just to chat and catch up and others who need to run ideas past me. My job doesn’t finish after a sale - it keeps going until a project is complete,” she shares, adding that being able to be involved in all phases of her clients’ remodeling ventures, from start to finish, is one of the reasons she loves working with investors so much. Of course, it is always nice to expand one’s professional portfolio, and Nicole is excited to be branching out to commercial projects. “I recently sold my first commercial property, which has opened up a whole new world of work for me. It’s been awesome getting my foot in the door and learning more about that side of the industry. I’ve lived in Manayunk for the past eight years, but selling the commercial property on Main Street really made me immerse myself into the community culture,” she says.

PERSPECTIVE MATTERS: Transform Your Real Estate Marketing!

NO MATTER WHAT LIFE THROWS YOUR WAY, INVEST IN YOURSELF AND YOUR RELATIONSHIPS - IT WILL PAY OFF IN THE LONG RUN!

When she isn’t busy conquering new phases in her career, Nicole can be found relaxing near the DE beaches, one of her favorite destinations. “Whenever life gets a little too crazy, and this industry often does, I take a few days for myself and fire down [there]. I really need to consider getting my DE license soon,” she says. Beach days aside, Nicole also likes to unwind by spending a quiet day at home, drinking tea and reading a magazine in the company of her two cats, Sully and Luca. Catch-up phone calls to her parents make her feel grounded as well…and sometimes those calls even yield helpful work advice. “My mom speaks fluent Spanish, and my dad is great on the finance side, so they both have a lot to offer in terms of [helping me with] client assistance,” she shares. As she continues to evolve in her strengths, Nicole’s REALTOR® star will continue to burn bright. And while adding new talents to her arsenal will always be of interest to her, Nicole plans to also stay true to the original skills that got her this far in the first place – tenacity and discipline. Along those lines, she leaves us with this closing thought: “Those [who are] in this industry know real estate is not a fast track to millions. It takes a lot of determination to actually “make it” as a successful agent. I didn’t bring in a lot my first year, but I remained focused on establishing a name for myself. The mailers? They were going out. The office? I went in, even if I didn’t have to. The clients? They always came first, whether it was late at night or on a holiday. The grind and the hustle have paid off, and I’ve recently had one of my most successful months since starting my real estate journey...No matter what life throws your way, invest in yourself and your relationships - it will pay off in the long run!”

teamwork makes the dream work

Lee

Written by: Dave Danielson Photography by: Bryant Sanders

Anthony

In time, he got a nudge forward from the universe. “I had been working in my first professional job after graduating from Neumann University. That job was short lived, due to being laid off on New Year’s Day,” he remembers.

REALTY ONE GROUP FOCUS PHILLY

I love helping families or individuals who think they are unable to purchase a home, showing them how to achieve their goal.

“I used that as my motivation for going into real estate. From that point on, I decided that I didn’t want to have someone else control my destiny.”

Action in the Face of Disbelief

People with a dream don’t have to search too hard to find others who will tell them they’re wasting their time. For these naysayers, it’s easy to discourage others in their quest to reach what they want in life. Luckily, these people who have the dream of homeownership have people like Realty One Group Focus Philly on their side to prove the naysayers wrong.

“Yet I knew from the first client that this is what I wanted to do and that it was something that was worth the while to get my real estate license,” Anthony recalls. Today, Anthony is a proud member of the Realty One Group Focus Philly Brokerage, a group consisting of both individuals and a large team — the Good Neighbor Real Estate Team.

Getting His Start in the Business

“We have professionals who are full-time, along with others who work part-time who help people with their real estate goals. Our office also consists of Mobile Notary & Title Services,” Anthony says.

Anthony’s start in the business was an up and down affair. At first, he caught fire quickly — closing three transactions during his first three months. After that initial flurry, things cooled for a bit. It would be six months before his next transaction.

“We also have different funding resources whether you are an investor looking for Fix and Flip Funding, first time home buyer or looking for that dream home we have in house traditional funding, as well as property management services. So we have a one-stop shop.”

Positive Movement

As an Owner/Licensed Agent with Realty One Group Focus Philly, Anthony helps his clients take positive action in the face of disbelief. “I love helping families or individuals who think they are unable to purchase a home, showing them how to achieve their goal,” Anthony smiles. “I also love meeting people from all the different walks of life … working and meeting different people gives you a diverse perspective on things in life.” Anthony earned his real estate license in 2014. Before jumping all in on real estate, he worked different jobs but never felt fulfilled. As he recalls, he had always had an entrepreneurial spark that was just waiting to catch fire. 20 • December 2023

(From Left to Right) Justice Understanding, Oscar McMickens, Carrera Carlton, Tameka Montgomery, Taylor (Gunna) Wall, Chandra Reid, Shamica Brown, Brandy Brunson, Marlon Belfon, Shaheedah Tinsley-Cobbs

Anthony enjoys team building and brain storming with his colleagues. “When we have down time, we like to relax by playing Top Golf or going bowling. Or even get some running miles in or a workout,” he says. “We have a partner office with Janet, Melissa, and Stacy in Southampton. We are a blended family from different walks of life who have come together to achieve the goal of helping our community and peers achieve homeownership and a legacy through real estate.” 22 • December 2023

Gratitude

Anthony has a deep sense of appreciation for those who have been there to ease his path ahead. “I want to give a thank you to all of our past and future clients for the opportunity that they have given us and we look forward to doing more business with each and every one of you,” he emphasizes.

realproducersmag.com

“I am also very thankful for the Realty One and Good Neighbor Family for coming together and putting this dream in motion.” As Anthony says, there is a deep purpose to what drives his career in real estate. “I hope the experience for those we serve is smooth and not stressful. Our team tries to make sure all of our

clients feel that they aren’t being forced or rushed to do anything,” he says. “We want it to be worthwhile so they will encourage friends and family to work with us as well.” Congratulations to Anthony Lee for making a vital impact on those around him … in the process, taking action in the face of disbelief.

Christine agent on fire Written by: Jamie Taylor Photography by: PLUSH Image Corp.

ERTZ

THE MAIN STREET TEAM AT COPPER HILL REAL ESTATE Over the past five years, Christine Ertz, founder of The Main Street Team at Copper Hill Real Estate, has been steadily making her mark in the housing industry. With a heart for service and a natural inclination to uplift others, Christine’s talents are well matched to the world of real estate, and her commitment to staying true to her values is reflected in her successful, client-focused brand. Chrstine’s connection to real estate is something she felt from an early age, as she would often accompany her stepmom, an appraiser and REALTOR®, on different job sites. “There were special days where she would let me tag along on [her projects]. Sometimes she would let me measure, other times I had grid paper and would draw my own houses,” she recalls. Despite that exposure, Christine did not consider real estate as a career path when she first entered the professional world, and instead she held a variety of jobs, including office manager, project coordinator, and executive assistant. These opportunities all left her with a sense of feeling unfulfilled. “Nothing was meaningful to me. Approving invoices and answering phones was not it,” she says. Now, twenty-five years later, Christine is living her best professional life, and she says there isn’t a thing she doesn’t enjoy about her job. “What other career do you get to pick who you work with, for the most part? From my broker to my team and my clients, I love having these people in my life. At the core of it all is that I get to make a huge, positive difference in peoples’ lives. Closing day floods me with serotonin when I see happy clients.”

Christine’s passion for the who, what, where, and why of her role brings a lot of value to her clients, unsurprisingly, but it also benefits non-clients as well. “I’m here to be a resource to the community. People frequently reach out for advice on renovations, contractors, upcoming events, and what’s going on at the house down the street - you get the idea. They know I’m happy to help and expect nothing in return,” she says, adding that it is important to treat every person like a VIP. That relationship-focused mentality is something that Christine sees reflected throughout her brokerage, and she says likeness of outlook is what originally drew her to Copper Hill. “I truly care about the people I work with, and my

broker is the same. Our team - The Main Street Team - also shares the same philosophy. We are a team of capable, caring, and compassionate agents. There are no purchased leads here! Every client we have [is] because of a personal connection or a great review.” Outside of work, Christine enjoys simple pleasures, and relaxing at home with her husband (Patrick) and two dogs (Phin and Charli); it ranks high on her list of favorite ways to unwind. Volunteer work also fills her spare time, and she currently serves as a marketing committee contributor for North Light Community Center, a role that allows her to help raise money for the organization’s wonderful services. Additionally, she serves as a board member and events committee member for the Manayunk Development Corporation (MDC), and she appreciates the opportunity this affords her to better serve her commercial clients on Main Street. “Knowing what is coming and going can really help [identify] what businesses Main Street needs. I love getting to know all my business neighbors,” she says,

adding that being active in the community is important to her. “While it can be stressful at times to go head-to-head with a behemoth developer, it can also be extremely rewarding knowing I am trying to help my neighbors.” Christine’s sights are set on a few additional initiatives in 2024, she will rejoin the Roxborough Development Corporation, a group she served with pre-pandemic, and on a more pleasure pursuit note, she also hopes to take up a new hobby: trap shooting. Additionally, she identifies with and is supportive of the LGBTQ+ initiatives and is strong in her belief that love is love, no matter gender. With such commitment to helping the community around her thrive, and helping homeowners buy or sell their way to new dreams, it is easy to see how Christine has been able to carve a name for herself in real estate in a fairly short time. Here’s to her rising star – and the many more successes in her future!

Brett Rosenthal has carved out a successful REALTOR® persona as a top-producing agent and founder of The Revolve Philly Group at Compass. Considering that he grew up watching his parents, also agents, conquer the housing industry, it would be easy to assume that Brett’s love for the field was inspired at an early age. Not so. In fact, there was a time that Brett “knew” real estate was the last career he’d ever want. “I went to law school and became a lawyer, with aspirations of being a prosecutor because I really wanted to help people, but I learned it is really hard to make a living on that side of criminal law,” Brett explains. Setting his sights on a vocation reinvention, he moved to New York, landing a job in tech sales while also launching a successful clothing company… and eventually deciding to try his hand at real estate after all, despite his early misgivings. Brett quickly realized being a REALTOR® had a lot to offer in the way of human connection, something that he derives positive energy from, and, to this day, it’s the aspect of his job that still gives him the biggest sense of professional fulfillment. “Whether it’s helping clients buy or sell homes or get into or out of homes with unique situations, it makes me feel really good to [support] people daily,” he shares, adding that challenging transactions are the ones he enjoys the most. “I have helped many clients sell their homes in areas that most agents wouldn’t take. These clients are generally looking to get out of bad situations, and I take pride in being able to successfully help them. I also take pride in helping first-time home buyers, who have no idea how to buy a home...” Brett’s enthusiasm for the underdog listings helps set him apart in his field, as does his commitment to shooting straight, even if that means being the bearer of bad news. “First and foremost being honest is key and something I will always do with my clients. Even when it’s something they don’t want to hear, I give them the facts or my honest opinion. I don’t take on a client that I know I truly can’t help just to earn a potential commission. My clients are also like my friends and family, so we have a very personal relationship that lasts forever, and they can reach out to me at any time

and get fast answers,” Brett explains, noting that having clients keep up with his life and reach out long after a transaction is one of the greatest rewards for his efforts. “When your client calls you and asks you to go to The Phillies playoff game out of nowhere, it makes me feel good that I was remembered.” Strong relations with his clients aside, Brett also embraces the deep connection he has with his team, and he says working with such a great group of colleagues helps keep him motivated. “I originally started a team because I was too busy to properly handle all my clients and leads...Real estate as an individual can also be a very lonely business, and, for me, working with others was crucial to my own success. I come from a background of competing and coaching sports on a tight-knit team, and I find it works if it’s truly a team environment. I originally started the team by finding other like-minded agents, and I wasn’t scared to bring on brand new agents and even people right out of high school or college. I wanted everyone to grow together and start at nothing,” he explains. Grow together they have, and Brett says he feels an immense sense of pride in not only who his teammates are, but also how far they have all come. “As a fairly new REALTOR®, I learned on my own how to succeed in today’s market and realized that what agents did years ago doesn’t work for new agents today... My motto is that all great teams grow together, and that’s what we did at Revolve Philly Group. Think the Sixers’ ‘Trust the process’ theory - except ours actually is working...” Teamwork is so important to Brett that it accounts for the theme of one of his favorite industry awards. Though he’s won many, he isn’t too concerned with amassing accolades, but one trophy that was especially meaningful to him was the Real

I ORIGINALLY STARTED A TEAM BECAUSE I WAS TOO BUSY TO PROPERLY HANDLE ALL MY CLIENTS AND LEADS...REAL ESTATE AS AN INDIVIDUAL CAN ALSO BE A VERY LONELY BUSINESS, AND, FOR ME, WORKING WITH OTHERS WAS CRUCIAL TO MY OWN SUCCESS.

Trends The Thousand award for most units sold as a team. “Very few get this, and to take a [group] with absolutely no experience and achieve this made me happy for both myself and my amazing team,” he shares. When he isn’t in work mode, Brett enjoys working out (usually twice a day), playing hockey, boxing, visiting the beach with his family over

summers, and traveling – whether it is to other cities and countries or taking more humble day trips around Philadelphia. In addition to these pleasure pursuits, Brett likes carving out time to give back to the community, with one of his favorite past initiatives being his service as a volunteer coach for youth hockey teams. “It was highly

rewarding to help kids get better at something they loved and be part of a team, which helps them learn and grow to be better people. I’m convinced if every kid in Philadelphia had to be part of a close-knit team with good leadership, there would be way less crime and better people out there,” he says.

Brett also volunteers time during Thanksgiving to serve food for those in need, alongside his work team, and devotes hours to the four-leggeds as well, taking shelter dogs on walks through the city. “It’s rewarding because they get to spend time with a caring person while waiting for someone to adopt them,” he explains. A few additional fun facts to know about Brett are that he trained with Buster Douglas (before Buster beat Mike Tyson) for a charity boxing match, and he was also on an episode of the Bachelorette TV show “a long time ago”. Brett comes from a supportive family, and he is close to his parents and brothers. He has two kids: a son who, like Brett, is a great ice hockey player, and a daughter who attends University of Florida and aspires to be a physician assistant. And then there is his 7-month-old “child,” a mini golden retriever named Oakley. Oakley is well-known throughout the building Brett lives in, and she’s used to being the center of attention. So much so, that she is legitimately disappointed if she goes for a walk and doesn’t get rubbed by any humans. With his genuine desire to interact with others and his passion for creating wins through collaboration, it’s no wonder Brett’s star has risen in the world of real estate. Afterall, what client wouldn’t want to work with an agent who is all about reaching great heights…together.
