There may not have been any power in Powell River on June 7, but there was plenty of electricity at Larry Gouthro Park, where Powell River Minor Baseball Association was showcasing its talent. In a game featuring the U18 Larsen Towing and Pollen Sweaters teams, minor baseball alumnus Bob Bogoslowski came out to throw the first pitch. Bogoslowski has a long history of baseball in the community, having played for Larry Gouthro in his teenage years. “Baseball is back in Powell River,” said Bogoslowski. “I drove past DA Evans Park last year when they were playing and I was impressed. I told some of my old-time teammates and friends that they should go and see them play. “They have their swag and their little walk-up song. It’s a little different than it was in our day, but it is wonderful, and it warms my heart that baseball is back, especially here at Larry Gouthro Park. Larry had a tremendous influence with the community and the athletes who played baseball.” Bogoslowski said Gouthro was his coach and mentor, and in his adult years, Bogoslowski coached with Gouthro, who was a “big influence on baseball and the lessons of life as well.” Brenden Frehlich, president of Powell River Minor Baseball Association, said »18 HOME ON ½ ACRE
