Petition organizers seeking signatures Efforts underway to collect names in support of priority BC Ferries access for residents PAUL GALINSKI reporter@prpeak.com

A petition has been established to support priority ferry access for Powell River residents, and Diane Sparks and Mike Bryan have been busy collecting signatures. The hope is that 10,000 people will sign the petition, and that it can be presented in the BC Legislature.

Organizers of a ferry petition are aiming for 10,000 signatures to support priority ferry access for Powell River residents. “We want residents of Powell River to get resident’s cards back, so we have top priority for boarding, and we want to get rid of those reservations, which shouldn’t apply to us,” said Mike Bryan, one of the organizers of the petition. “It’s just a money grab and it’s not fair. “They [BC Ferries] don’t realize that this is our highway. They are there to serve us, but they cater to the tourists more than the residents.” Diane Sparks, another petition organizer, said she would be happy to see reservations returned to 25 per cent of ferry capacity.
