Welcome

Dear NHS Inductees,

Congratulations! Meeting the rigorous requirements of the National Honor Society is a significant accomplishment and I am personally very proud of each one of you for earning this honor. It has taken a lot of hard work in academics to get here today and each one of you has shown impeccable character to be considered for this prestigious organization.

Providence School prepares its students to be boldly Christian and unquestionably academic servant leaders who change the world.

As a former Providence student myself, I can remember my own NHS induction ceremony back in 2004, and I am so proud to welcome you to the Providence Chapter of the National Honor Society. When potential colleges and employers see that you have earned this honor, it will help set you apart in their eyes and expand the opportunities for your future. As you continue in NHS for your remaining time at Providence, you will become a model of servant leadership as you serve our Providence community in a variety of practical and meaningful ways. I encourage each of you to make wise decisions as you seek to embody the character of a National Honor Society student. I know that your families, friends, and teachers are so proud of you, and we want you to know that we are praying for you and hope that you will use your incredible talents to serve God and grow His kingdom. May God continue to bless each one of you. Sincerely,

Michael Gray, M.Ed High School Principal

JULIANA BAJALIA NHS Vice-President

KATHERINE KEITH NHS Vice-President

As President of the National Honor Society, it has truly been an honor to serve my community and school along with my peers. This organization has strengthened my personal values in its four pillars: character, leadership, scholarship, and service. The opportunity to lead my peers is something I will forever be grateful for. National Honor Society members go above and beyond in service and academics. I am personally elated to serve alongside with our peers and our new inductees. I am thankful for NHS, Providence, and my fellow officers and am thrilled to serve as President for the 2020-2021 school year. Being Vice President of National Honor Society is a great honor. The core pillars of this organization: scholarship, service, leadership, and character, are clearly displayed and instilled in each of its members. Being a part of NHS has been amazing and has taught me great leadership skills and important lessons that I will carry with me after I graduate. It has been an absolute pleasure working alongside the other officers, as well as the two wonderful NHS sponsors, to bring together the Providence student body. My position in National Honor Society is incredibly rewarding, and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity I have been given to serve my peers. The National Honor Society has always been a wonderful way for students to build community service skills and learn the importance of honor, integrity, service, and scholarship. Personally, I have developed skills from NHS that I will forever appreciate. Skills of leadership, hard work, and service, as well as a better understanding of honesty and the expectation to serve others. I am thankful for the opportunity to serve as Vice President in the National Honor Society, and I am excited to have the ability to lead others through their walk within this organization. This year, I hope to share my passion for community service with other Providence students while simultaneously strengthening my own character.

GRAY MILLER NHS Treasurer

COLE POWERS NHS Chaplain

Based on the four pillars of character, scholarship, leadership, and service, National Honor Society (NHS) recognizes students’ academic success, personal integrity, and desire to give back to their community. I am so grateful for the opportunity to serve the Providence student body as secretary of this organization. I have had the pleasure to work closely with fellow students, which has given me the opportunity to know them on a deeper level. Being a member and officer of NHS has sparked my desire to serve others and given me many opportunities to be a leader in my school and in Jacksonville. I congratulate all of our new members and hope that they all find the same joy in this organization as I have experienced. The definition of treasurer is a person appointed to administer or manage the financial assets and liabilities of a society, company, local authority, or other body, but being the Providence National Honor Society Treasurer holds more meaning. Being treasurer is not only an honor, but a service. Leading the many NHS members is an important key component, and using this leadership opportunity as treasurer will help promote and inspire our members to build their leadership skills. Wanting to assist others, Mrs. DeCastro, Mrs. Matthews, and the NHS members of Providence school is my goal for the 2020-2021 school year. Though my main job is to help with the financial side of NHS, I take my roll seriously by showing the NHS members the responsibility and leadership skills it takes to be in NHS. Through election as Chaplain of National Honor Society, I have been granted a great mantle of spiritual responsibility. It is an incredible honor to support the leaders of Providence and exemplifying Jesus in all we do. This Chapter provides me the opportunity to lead my fellow members in compassion, empathy, and kindness through empowerment by the Holy Spirit. It is my great joy to hold this position and be granted the privilege of praying over the school each morning. Jesus’ loving-kindness for you and the students at this school is overflowing. He is doing great work through National Honor Society at Providence. Our community service projects reach great multitudes in Jacksonville. I am a proud member of this chapter of National Honor Society, and it is my pleasure to be your Chaplain.
