Wedding cake trend UNDOUBTEDLY, wedding cakes have become more elaborate and more extravagant over the years, but with new trends paving the way for wedding cake designs, it seems that less is often more.

Couples are choosing for a fresh, simpler designed ‘naked’ wedding cake with less design work and more focus on flowers (and of course the taste) as the main decoration.

Hints for fuss free wedding DIY

MANY people planning their wedding choose to DIY some aspects of their special day, whether it be for aesthetic reasons, wanting to have a totally individual touch, or to save money.

However, sometimes DIY can add stress to your planning, rather than decrease it.

But if you think, plan and prioritise carefully, it need not be an issue.

If money is your issue, do some pricing and maths and ensure that it actually will save you money.

When DIYing, ensure you do not get swamped or overwhelmed by the amount of items you will actually be making.

It is no use committing to making dozens of bomboniere or decorations if it is going to leave you – and your bridal party, if you have asked them to help you – stressed, bored, pressed for time, or angry.

By that same token, don’t be afraid to ask those close to you for some crafting help - especially if they are crafty themselves. You can even make an evening out of chatting and creating items, if you so fancy.

And if you are committing to many projects, make sure you start and finish your handmade items early – the week before your wedding is not a time to be stressed about little tasks.

Sometimes it can be helpful to do a trial run of crafts or DIY you are intending to do, to ensure that what you make will hold up to the conditions on your wedding day (ie paintwork on glassware, for example).

Prioritise with your time and budget to ensure you do not skimp on the things which make you and your guests the happiest, and which will make the wedding day run more smoothly.

Op shops can be your best friend, especially if you are going for a secondhand, retro aesthetic or are trying to have a wedding that has less impact on the environment.

If you don’t want to keep the secondhand items after the wedding, you can often on-sell them to another budget conscious bride and make at least some of your money back.

Make sure that you plan so that your wedding day is as calm and stress free as possible, and all you have to do is get ready at your leisure, get to the wedding and enjoy the festivities after.

HANDMADE: Adding DIY touches to your wedding is a great idea, but don’t overcommit yourself or your wedding party.
