Celebrant with a personal touch THE simple joy of meeting new people and becoming a part of one of the most significant days of their lives makes celebrant Jane Derrick passionate about her work.

A former teacher and Life Education van educator, Mrs Derrick has been a celebrant for about five years and her work takes her across the North East and beyond, as far as Melbourne, the Yarra Valley, Healesville, Yarrawonga, and even locations in New South Wales.

Based in Boweya, Mrs Derrick said many of her clients seek her out through word of mouth and she prides herself on lending a personal touch to each ceremony that she performs.

“I take time out to get to know each couple,” she said, adding that she likes to meet with couples at least three or four times prior to the big day, at a venue that is convenient for them.

“Ceremonies can be as short or as long as they want, and as

serious or as humorous as they desire.”

She said many of the most meaningful vows are the ones the couples come up with themselves, sharing touching and profound moments from their lives and relationship together.

If engaged couples are stumped, Mrs Derrick can also help out with suggestions of vows or readings to help give them ideas.

She added that her attention to detail goes as far as visiting the venue at the same time of day the ceremony will be held, so there are no unpleasant surprises with couple or guests getting the sun in their eyes and affecting their enjoyment of the day.

Couples can also look back on their wedding long after the day has passed, with Mrs Derrick giving the happy couple a copy of their ceremony in a handsome burgundy presentation folder.

Wedding planning with a difference GETTING married in Wangaratta later this month, local couple Kacey Wells and Jerry O’Callaghan have planned a wedding with a difference.

The couple have known each other since their school days, moving to Bendigo together to pursue tertiary studies.

“Our relationship grew as we became more independent,” Ms Wells said.

“We studied together in San Diego, California for six months which was the most amazing experience, we are so grateful we got to experience that together.

“We love that we are both passionate people, we both have a drive to make a difference in the world, our morals and beliefs align with each other and we are also both spontaneous and ready to take on any new challenge together.”

Planning a casual, relaxed outdoor, wedding, the couple are also committed to organising an entirely vegan event and shopping locally for what they need.

“We went vegetarian about 12 months into our courses

in Bendigo, simply because we couldn’t afford meat,” Ms Wells said.

Eventually, the pair began to pursue a more plant based, or vegan diet.

“It started out as a money thing, but now we could be the richest people in the world and we still wouldn’t touch animal products,” she said.

Excited about their upcoming wedding, Ms Wells said that she felt compelled to support local business.

“We are also very passionate about supporting small businesses, that small guy has a family, works harder than anyone else in a multinational company and is so passionate about providing their community with a valuable service.

“We only buy necessities and make sure we get them from the right place.

“We are most excited about declaring our love and commitment to each other in front of all our family and closest friends.

“We can’t wait to continue exploring the world together and taking on many new challenges and experiences.”

Capturing wedding day atmosphere and emotion JEN from Jennifer Boote Photography loves capturing the special moments that happen on a bride and groom’s wedding day.

“Your wedding day is, arguably, the most important day of your life to date,” she said.

“It’s a day when memories are made, tears of joy are shared, emotions are heightened and love abounds.”

Jen loves photographing weddings more than anything else – she loves the atmosphere and the emotions that flow through the day.

What Jen prides herself in is capturing the images that often get forgotten – the shoes (his and hers!), the flowers, the rings, the perfume or that special item that has been handed down or on or to the bride.

Jen says “all of those are important to help you document the day – but you also need the moments that happen unexpectedly.

“The moment when the bride takes a deep breath and walks down the aisle, the moment the groom first spots his forever love.

“The moment Dad’s hand leaves his daughters and passes it on to her soon to be husband.

INTIMATE: Jen Boote specialises in capturing quiet, personal moments.

“The moment that Mum cries as she watches her son or daughter make the biggest commitment of their life and the tears slip down her face.

“The moment one of the flower girls gets a kiss from the pageboy.”

Yes, there are a percentage of images that need to be ‘posed’, but Jen tries to minimise

those and stick as much as possible to more natural and spontaneous moments.

Jen is also constantly looking for that ‘hero’ shot - the one that ends up on your wall to be looked at for years to come and even to be talked about with your children in the future.

“I have been photographing weddings for over four years

now and wish I had started sooner,” Jen said.

“Weddings are such a joy to photograph and to be part of.

“Every single one I do leaves me with wonderful memories.”

She said she takes a personalised approach to every wedding she photographs.

“When I photograph weddings, or for that matter families and children, I look to capture the unexpected moments so the memories that are created form a story for the couple and their family and friends to remember in the years ahead.

“My motto is, ‘capturing unexpected moments that

become precious memories’,” Ms Boote said.

She said that she was very flexible in terms of creating the perfect wedding package for each couple.

“I do have wedding packages that I offer, but I find that each couple has their own dreams and plans and I like to try and make my packages suit what each couple want.

“Your wedding is first and foremost about you and that is how I focus my packages and my photography.

“I count it a privilege to be involved in every wedding I photograph.”

Ms Boote said she is extremely flexible with locations and happily travels around the region covering weddings from Albury to Falls Creek and across to Mt Hotham/Dinner Plain, Bright, Wandiligong, Myrtleford and Milawa.

Ms Boote added there are many beautiful reception locations in our region, and this has inspired her to put together an online ‘Bright/Mt Beauty Wedding Guide’.
