A COMPREHENSIVE report calling for the Wangaratta-Whitfield Road to be fixed and for investment in infrastructure to better serve both residents and the half a million tourists who visit the King Valley each year, has received official support of the Rural City of

Wangaratta council. The King Valley Infrastructure Project was started in 2018 when two residents assessed the

condition of road from the Wangaratta to Whitfield, but with input from over 400 resident households and 50 businesses - who overwhelmingly agreed it needed to be upgraded - it became an evidence-based demand for investment in the King Valley region. With a prediction more

than 1,000,000 people will visit the King Valley each year by 2030, project proponents John Bridges and Chris Hazell say an urgent upgrade of the road through to Cheshunt is required. They also want to see it renamed the King Valley Road, to have stage three of

the Murray to Mountains rail trail completed from Oxley to Cheshunt and to have a sculpture trail alongside it. But key to the project is the upgrade of the road and it was supported by more than 85 per cent of residents surveyed. ■ Continued page 2
