upskill young riders in the formative stages of riding motorcycles. Committee convenor Senior Sergeant Colin Provan of Wangaratta police said while initial conversations had

focused around becoming acquainted with one another, attendees had established some key outcomes of the committee going forward. “The general consensus was that the state needs to do more planning - a lot of the members take rider training courses and see the value of that and see how it has influenced their riding behaviours,” he said.

“More needs to be done in trying to influence the children and young teenagers who get involved in off-road motorcycle riding, by trying to tap in early to ensure they grow and develop with the skills they need. “It’s about being sensible and riding to yours and your bike’s limitations as well as driving to the road conditions.”

Seven motorcycle enthusiasts joined Snr Sgt Provan and other road safety advocates at Myrtleford’s Savoy Club last week, ahead of the formal creation of the committee which will convene on a regular basis to workshop ideas to decrease road trauma among the region’s twowheeled cohort.
