Warm sunshine greeted an almost 500-strong crowd, as the local Damu Dance Group presented a traditional dance before Uncle Dozer welcomed new Australian citizens with a traditional smoking ceremony, a symbol of bringing communities together. Rural City of Wangaratta mayor Dean Rees led council’s commitment to reconciliation with local Indigenous groups, and said Australia Day was an opportunity to reflect, respect
