The region’s closest specialist family violence court currently operates in Shepparton, while Hume Riverina Community Legal Service (HRCLS) has been overrun with demand for free support in recent years.

“The Centre Against Violence opened 362 family violence cases in the 21/22 financial year and is on track to service over 450 this financial year,” Ms Chubb said. “We estimate 80 per cent of these clients will need legal support and we know the HRCLS is at full capacity and turning away over half of their current referrals. “This data is only the tip
