COME ALONG TO FREE OZ DAY POOL PARTY

READY FOR FUN FUN: B Ben D Duncan and dA Asha h B Bennett tt welcome l th the community it tto a ffree pooll party t att th the W Wangaratta tt S Sports t and dA Aquatic ti Centre’s outdoor pool today to mark Australia Day.

RURAL City of Wangaratta is throwing open the gates to the Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre (WSAC) outdoor pool this Australia Day for a free community event. Supported by a National Australia Day Council grant, today’s event will feature free water aerobics, a giant inflatable, music and games. There will be free entry to the outdoor pool only from 11am to 7pm. “Throwing a pool party is a great way for council to give back to our community on Australia Day,” Wangaratta mayor Dean Rees said. “Pool parties are a part of Aussie life, so bring the family down for a free swim and enjoy a snag or two from the Rotary Club of Appin Park Wangaratta.” WSAC manager Penny Hargrave said a free aqua aerobics class with Jenny, Gena and Kylie at 2.15pm will be a bit of fun for everyone. “It’s not a workout style aqua class, but more like a bit of frivolous fun, and there are no bookings required so just come along, get involved and enjoy yourself,” she said. This year’s main Australia Day celebrations will be held at Wangaratta’s King George V Gardens from 8am.  Australia Day story page 3

voluntary at-home rapid antigen tests (RATs) for all staff and students - twice a week for mainstream primary and secondary schools, and each school day for specialist school students and staff - for the first four weeks of term. Early childhood education and care staff have also been encouraged to use the freely supplied tests to monitor their health

twice a week, for four weeks from Monday. To enable this, free RATs will be delivered to schools over the next week, and it’s expected parents will be invited to collect them. While many local schools were expected to be briefed further on the rollout of the plan late yesterday, new St Patrick’s Primary School principal Gabrielle Downie, Appin Park Primary School

principal Fiona Carson and Wangaratta High School acting principal Michelle Bootes said their initial advice was that parents would receive a pack of five tests per student in week one, with another pack to follow in week three. Positive tests should be reported to the Department of Health and the school, and those who report a positive result must

isolate for seven days. All three principals said their schools had taken delivery of air purifiers (which form part of the State Government’s ‘3Vs’ focus on ventilation, vaccination and vital COVID-safe steps) and were awaiting the arrival of the RAT supplies. “We are excited to be back on Monday, and to see all our students back on site,” Ms Carson said. ■ Continued page 5
