LLAST AST MINUTE LOGISTICS SANTA Claus has made his list, and was spotted checking it twice from the top of the Co-Store’s multi-deck carpark this week, as he laid down his final plans for visiting Wangaratta homes this evening. Conditions look fine for his COVIDsafe flight into the North East, and for a mostly sunny day tomorrow with a predicted top of 35 degrees. Whether your name appears on the naughty or the nice side of Santa’s ledger, the Wangaratta Chronicle wishes all our readers a happy and safe Christmas. Our next edition will be published on New Year’s Eve. PHOTO: Nick Richards

No rest for testers

COVID ttesting ti g llocally lly h has ramped p d up p after ft rising i i g case numbers b across Vi Victoria t i and d NSW

By RYAN MALCOLM and STEVE KELLY PLANS to scale back COVID testing capacity in the rural city during the holiday period have been scrapped, amid an increase in case numbers throughout the country. The announcement comes the same day the State Government reinstated a mask mandate in

all indoor settings outside of private homes from 11:59pm last night. The Vincent Road screening clinic facility had initially aimed to provide testing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Christmas Day, but the rapidly changing situation will see COVID testing remain available seven days a week, with reduced hours on weekends.

Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) acting chief executive officer Robyn Gillis said the changing situation meant health services needed to remain prepared. “With strong demand expected our screening clinic will remain open every day throughout the Christmas/New Year period,” she said. “We will also open

our vaccination clinic an additional two days, particularly to encourage take-up of booster shots. “With case numbers rising nationally, we are encouraging everyone who is eligible to come forward to get their third dose - this will protect you, your family and your community.” Booster vaccinations are now open to those who received their second dose

more than five months ago, with bookings preferred by calling 1800 571 121. The screening clinic will remain open seven days a week, from 7:30am to 12pm on week days and from 7:30am to 11am on weekends. The Tone Road vaccination clinic will be open from 8:30am to 2pm today, and from 8:30am to 4pm on December 29 and 30.

The clinic will operate from Monday to Friday (8:30am to 4pm) from January 4. Locally, more people are getting their booster doses of the COVID-19 vaccination with South Wangaratta Medical Clinic offering the Pfizer dose to people 18 years and over who had their second dose at least five months ago. ■ Continued page 2
