A SOUTH Wangaratta family is trying to make sure their house isn’t demolished to make way for road access to a potential future housing estate following the current public exhibition of a draft strategy. Wangaratta council endorsed a Draft Low Density

potential land sales. But the Eldridge family, who own a property on Wangaratta’s Pindari Road, were shocked when they looked at the plans and saw a road drawn in the exact location where their house is located. Lana Eldridge has sought

legal advice with fears council could file a compulsory acquisition of her land in the future to install a connecting road and she wants it in writing from council that it’s not going to happen. When alerted to the problem, Mayor Dean Rees has

attempted to alleviate the Eldridge family’s concerns that their home will be acquired. “Council is not in the business of acquiring and demolishing properties, this is just an initial stage, and a draft plan and it will get chopped and changed half

a dozen times over the next few years,” Cr Rees said. “This is purely a potential proposal and I don’t think council would ever say ‘hey you’re going to have to knock down your house because we need to put a road (there)’. ■ Continued page 3
