BIEBER BRINGS RARE CONDITION INTO THE SPOTLIGHT WANGARATTA’S Tanya Grant may not have thought she had much in common with Justin Bieber (inset) - until the Canadian pop star announced this month that he had the same condition with which she was diagnosed five years ago. Like others across the globe, she hopes Bieber’s discussion of his condition will raise awareness and understanding of the rare neurological disorder, Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. Teacher cash lure
WANGARATTA is among the locations where metro-based teachers have been deployed to take up casual relief teaching appointments, in a State Government bid to “manage the impact” of COVID-19 and flu season absences. A Department of Education and Training spokesman said as one part of work being done to support schools during this period, teachers were

being sought to work in Victorian schools to provide short-term, casual support throughout 2022. “We are also continuing to work with the casual relief teacher (CRT)
agencies to ensure teachers are available in Victorian government schools across all areas of the state - including the establishment of a daily rate of travel, accommodation and meals for CRTs who relocate to work in rural Victoria,” the spokesman said. “In just the first two weeks of the program, 15
teachers have already been deployed to schools in Shepparton, Wodonga and Wangaratta.” A breakdown of how many teachers were deployed to Wangaratta was not available from the department. A total of 250 incentives have been paid this financial year, with 70 per cent of the recipients
allocated to rural and regional schools. To be eligible for the incentives on offer, CRTs are required to relocate from metropolitan Melbourne to regional Victoria for a minimum two-week period, and may work across multiple schools in that regional area. A Support Your School Initiative team has also been
established to help schools source CRTs where they have exhausted all other avenues. Tenielle Henderson, team leader - recruitment at anzuk.education, posted on the agency’s website this month that teachers could “earn up to $700 per day to teach in regional Victoria”. ■ Continued page 2
