A police spokesperson earlier said officers had received reports of a red minivan driving erratically along Cribbes Road around 6.30pm on Monday, and ultimately pulled up behind the vehicle on LacebyTargoora Road shortly after. As police prepared to
confront the driver, the minivan allegedly reversed into the police vehicle and fled. No police officers were injured during the incident. Commentary from rural city residents on the ‘Wangaratta Community Noticeboard’ Facebook page alleged the vehicle had crashed through paddock fences in the vicinity of Cathedral College and
Laceby in the lead-up to the incident with police. The vehicle was also alleged to have been spotted driving on the wrong side of the road at Mason Street around 5.30pm, and reaching high speeds along Murdoch Road shortly after 6pm. “Investigators have been told the same vehicle was also seen driving erratically at the intersection of Inchbold Street and Cribbes

A police helicopter was reportedly despatched to assist ground units in their search for the vehicle, and was observed flying over the rural city until around 9pm, according to other Facebook users.
