Acceptable, Tolerable and Unacceptable. The park was closed to the public after a large red gum tree fell at the end of September, giving council time to thoroughly inspect other trees in the vicinity. Gum trees with dried out root systems that are suddenly inundated with water
are prone to falling. The operations of Christopher Robin Kindergarten, which is located near the fallen tree, had to be temporarily relocated as a result. Major events like the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues and the Christmas carols were also relo-
cated during this time. Marcus Goonan, council director of community and infrastructure, said the vast majority of the 170 trees were assessed as being structurally sound with no obvious factors of concern. “Some minor pruning and deadwood removal was recommended for 10
