Fallen tree fears A ggroup p of King g Valleyy residents hold high g concerns about trees or branches over roads

physical harm. Residents, CFA members and local business operators met with Ovens Valley MP Tim McCurdy last week and he confirmed that he will

raise their concerns with the Minister for Roads and Safety. Greta West resident Gary Marshall is one of the people wanting council and the Department of Transport to survey several locations and if the trees pose a high enough risk, to cut them down. He said the trees are

everywhere through the valley, including Boggy Creek Road (council managed road), and Glenrowan-Moyhu Road, and Wangaratta-Whitfield Road (state managed roads) and all the side roads in the vicinity. The group has photos of “near misses where people should have been

killed” by trees that were on dangerous leans and trees Mr Marshall said “haven’t been touched for 30 years”. “We’re raising awareness because we know someone is going to get killed,” Mr Marshall said. “In the holiday season the area gets fairly clogged with traffic and the motorists don’t look past the end of

the bonnet as they’re city drivers - their habits are very dangerous. “You get motorbikes, about 30 in a row on holidays, and they’re too busy trying to pass trucks on double white lines or blind corners to worry about what might happen with falling trees.” ■ Continued page 3
