evacuate t the th area. Water bombing helicopters were deployed from Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) bases at Benalla and Ovens, while a bulldozer was used to construct a fire break on the southern edge of the fire. Excavators were also used

to hazt manage a number b off h ardous trees in the vicinity of the fire, to allow FFMVic ground crews to work safely in the area. Mr Todd said the fire was contained by 9.30pm on Wednesday, however, crews were kept on scene overnight and into Thursday to continue to manage its spread.

Another A th crew was expected to return to the site overnight Thursday, with further blacking out expected today. By Thursday afternoon, an estimated six hectares had been burned, and 18 firefighting appliances remained on scene. ■ Continued page 3
