to live independently on their land. It comes at a time rental affordability is at an all-time high with, Wangaratta’s median rental price for a house at $420, while for a unit it’s $300, according to realestate.com.au. The Rental Affordability

Index for the June quarter shows the rural city is ‘moderately unaffordable’ with a score of 115, or 2530 per cent of household income is spent on rents. It will assist young people trying to study and work who don’t have the earning power to move

out on their own, adult children who want their aged parents to live closer, or landowners looking at lease options for the rental market. While no planning permits will be required for properties not within an overlay area, small

second homes will still require a building permit, will need to meet ResCode (residential design code) setback and siting requirements – and cannot be subdivided or separately sold off from the main home. ■ Continued page 2
