WANGARATTA’S three secondary schools have praised the efforts of their respective Year 12 cohorts in the wake of their VCE results on Monday. Hundreds of local Year 12 students were among more than 50,000 across Victoria who anxiously awaited their ATAR scores, with many waking up early to open their laptop and see how they did in their final year of school. Among them were local duxes Greta Dwyer from Galen Catholic College, Orlando Bulmer from Wangaratta High School and Jake Skahill from Cathedral College. Greta said her ATAR result of 95.2 was completely unexpected. “I was very surprised, it wasn’t what I was expecting,” she said. “I’d like to thank my family for all their support and all my teachers they’ve done an amazing job.”

Greta hopes to go to Monash University next year to study biomedical science or physiotherapy. A college spokesperson said this is a testament to her diligence and hard work throughout the year, and that the school is proud of all its year 12 students who completed VCE. Wangaratta High School student Orlando Bulmer achieved an ATAR of 99.05, putting him in the top one per cent of all Australian year 12 graduates. He said he is considering studying a Bachelor of Science (Advanced Honours) at ANU in Canberra. ■ Continued page 2
