developers has as d l h begun b part of North East Water’s (NEW) plan to increase wastewater capacity in Wangaratta. It’s ahead of large scale work that’s planned for 2024, which will bring the construction of sewerage pump stations, major pipelines and further detention tanks.
The Th new iinfrastructure f t t will allow the development of more than 2700 new lots in the northwest of the city and almost 1000 lots in the south. The sewer detention tanks will help ease pressure on the city’s sewer system during storm events. NEW announced the plan last year that would involve developers installing
underground d d tanks t k on a parcel of land near their developments to store waste for release in the sewerage system during off–peak times. The 150-kilolitre tanks are three metres in diameter x 21 metres long and made out of fibreglass, with each underground tank servicing 115 land lots.
Guy G Wilson-Browne, Wil B general manager planning and infrastructure at NEW, said the tanks play a crucial role in the organisation’s $35 million investment in new sewage and drinking water infrastructure over the next three years within the Wangaratta local government area. ■ Continued page 3
