WANGARATTA Magpies are through to the Ovens and Murray Football League grand final. The Magpies’ senior footballers beat Yarrawonga by five points on Saturday to book their place at Lavington Sportsground on September 25. And yesterday Wangaratta Rovers staged an inspired second half comeback to beat Albury by five points, and will meet Yarrawonga this Sunday in the preliminary final. Could it be a derby grand final? Wangaratta Magpies’ thirds footballers also won through to their grand final by defeating Corowa-Rutherglen on the weekend, while the Magpies’ A grade netballers beat Lavington yesterday and will take on Corowa Rutherglen in the preliminary final this weekend. Wangaratta Rovers’ thirds footballers are out after losing to Corowa-Rutherglen, while Wangaratta Rovers’s reserves will meet Wodonga in this weekend’s preliminary final. ■ More coverage see SPORT.

GROWING NEEDS A CHILDCARE and early learning centre plus a medical clinic has been proposed for Wangaratta’s Worland Road, with a planning application currently before the Rural City of Wangaratta council. It’s envisaged that the childcare centre and medical clinic will provide an essential community service and contribute to the creation of local employment, in an area accommodating part of the rural city’s resi-

on weekends occasionally for functions such as children’s parties between the hours of 9am and 5pm. The business is expected to provide employment for a total of 20 staff at any given time. Plans entail a single storey structure with a modern contemporary design with low-profile roof line. It features five activity spaces, an office, foyer, par-
ents lounge, meeting rooms, a staff room, kitchen and a laundry. The plans also include a large outdoor play area on the northern side of the building at ground level and an additional play area in the south eastern corner of the site. The carpark area contains a total of 24 car parking spaces including one disabled space and access is proposed via a six metre
wide crossover from Worland Road. Refuse would be stored adjacent to the car park so as to accommodate its collection and it is stored within an enclosure within the parking area to enable easy access. The medical centre is proposed to be located on the corner of Worland Road and Vista Drive with seven consulting rooms and a
treatment room plus reception and waiting area. The building is proposed to be two levels with the upper level to be recessed. There are 17 car spaces allocated to the centre which will have a separate access from Vista Drive. The site is proposed to be extensively landscaped around the perimeter and in between the two car parks. ■ Continued page 3
