BUMPER YEAR A BUMPER year for beef producers, coupled with a change to prime cattle market days has delivered Wangaratta Livestock Exchange its wealthiest year on record. The yards surpassed 2020 totals for both the number of cattle sold and cash which changed hands over the past 12 months. Some 36,219 head of cattle passed through the yards in 2021, selling

for a grand total of $65,792,277.15. That’s way up on the 23,948 head which sold for $30,199,142 in 2020. Oliver Mason of Elders

Wangaratta saleyards. “Three weeks ago we had over 1000 cattle in our prime sale, which probably hasn’t happened since about the early 2000s. “It’s been well supported by the local producers and we’re drawing quite a few cattle from further afield now as well. ■ Continued page 2
