ROLL UP, ROLL UP

EXCITEMENT is building throughout the rural city, ahead of the long-awaited return of the Wangaratta Show this morning. The 156th instalment of the rural city’s showcase event, and its first iteration since 2019, is set to return with a bang over the next two days, as the show’s trademark action kicks into gear from 9am. Wangaratta Agriculture Society president Fiona Evans said the busy schedule had taken hours of work

by the show’s organising committee, as entries returned en masse following the show circuit’s hiatus. “We are really looking forward to it - we’ve missed out for two years,” she said. “A whole lot of work is going into (the show) - all

engines are a go. “We’re probably slightly down on entries on previous years - that’s to be expected after the recent trauma.” She said the buzz around the showgrounds in the lead up to the event had been palpable, with the show committee, tradespeople, judges and community workers working tirelessly to prepare. “We’re going to be as busy as ever,” she said yesterday.

“There are people everywhere today, there are a lot of vans and tradespeople around the grounds throughout today - there’s just as many people as always. “We had the rides coming in yesterday - the event might be slightly smaller than usual but not noticeably smaller.” Up to 40mm of rain is forecast throughout today, although the weather is expected to

clear into tomorrow. Ms Evans said the show would power ahead in spite of the forecast, with an action-packed opening day to entertain attendees ahead of freestyle motocross act All4FMX, with Victorian brothers Mitch and Harry Van Vliet performing between 5:30pm and 7:30pm. The traditional fireworks show will close the day’s proceedings around 8:30pm, shortly after a dog

high jumping showcase on the showgrounds arena from 6:30pm. “If everyone comes prepared for the weather, they’ll have a great time,” Ms Evans said. Swagzters musical group will join South Australia-based Aussie group Me ‘n’ Me Mates in performing on both days, while animal enthusiasts will be able to interact with and learn about native Australian wildlife by visiting the Animals of Oz exhibition. ■ Continued page 2
