‘Pies rooms reno $721k works k to b build ild changerooms h g extension i will ill cater ffor athletes, hl , emergency g y evacuees
WORKS will commence early next year to upgrade changeroom facilities at the Wangaratta Showgrounds costing $721,496 to cater for athletes, and people during emergency events such as bushfires or floods. Works will involve a new ground floor extension to the existing Wangaratta Football Netball Club building to include male and female friendly changerooms, an accessible

toilet and storage area. The Parklands Precinct, which encompasses the showgrounds and WFNC building, was used as an emergency evacuation centre during the 2019-20 bushfires in the region. The site provided
support to more than 100 families, including temporary camping accommodation. Following the 20192020 emergency event, a post-operational report was developed identifying a recommendation to formalise a future relief centre. Council then received $2.039 million from the Commonwealth Government as part of the
Black Summer Bushfire Recovery Grants. The changerooms upgrade is one of five key projects to be delivered helping to enhance community infrastructure within the Parklands Precinct (Wangaratta Showgrounds) to improve community resilience during emergency events. Cr Harvey Benton said it was a tremendous outcome to achieve the upgrade that
will cater for people during an emergency situation and for sporting purposes. Wangaratta Magpies Football Netball Club’s Tony Goodison said the new changerooms will extend north towards the netball court and the road will follow a different alignment. “It will allow multiuse of the changerooms including male and female footballers and netballers
including storage for sports equipment,” he said. “There are often clashes with a number of netball teams wanting to use the area. “We are certainly going to upgrade our current space at ground level when we get the funding for it as well.” Works are expected to begin in late January 2023 and take about four months.
