Crash, boom gate issue impact traffic A THREE car collision along Rowan Street on Monday morning saw the road’s creek crossing closed for a number of hours. Police stopped traffic in Rowan Street between Swan and Orwell streets for several hours following a collision around 10am, with the road closed for at least three hours as debris was cleared. A police spokesperson confirmed no one had been injured in the crash, with police continuing to investigate the exact circumstances around the incident. Police were also called to manage traffic at the intersection of Tone Road d and Handley Street just after 5pm, after a fault with boom gates at the nearby train line was identified. Police remained on scene for around 50 minutes before the incidentt was rectified.

Gas leak sees locals evacuated

By RYAN MALCOLM A NUMBER of residences and nearby healthcare providers were evacuated on n Tuesday morning, following a gas leak along Cusack Street. According to Sergeant Phil Pelgrim of Wangaratta police, emergency service crews were called to the scenee around 9.30am, after a gas main was impacted as part of a dig near Cusack and Clark streets. He said the response had been substantial, with Fire Rescue Victoria members forced to cap the leak beforee handing the scene to a gas company. The gas line was shared with a number of local residences and smaller healthcare providers, while staff at Northeast Health Wangaratta were informed they may detect an odour in the event of a wind change. Sgt Pelgrim said the hospital was not evacuated. The scene was rectified around 11.30am.
Arborists to assess overhanging trees on Snow Road in coming g weeks By STEVE KELLY B AN Oxley resident wants overhanging Eucalypt trees on the Snow Road to be trimmed back as he believes it’s only a matter of time before someone is killed. Pat Richardson said with the wild weather the district has been experiencing lately it only takes a moderate gust and branches can be seen falling over the road in the area, with accidents having occurred in the past. “The issue is that dangerous trees are
overhanging the S Snow R Road the h i th d ffrom th Hume Freeway to the town of Oxley,” he said. “Branches have already fallen on the road and in one instance hit a car, but I am unsure of injuries to the occupants. “This road has a high volume of traffic under normal circumstances but at holiday and snow season time the traffic is exceptionally high volume. “Easter is upon us and with the recent rain it will create an environment for falling branches on the road. ■ Continued page 2
