ENCORE EFFORT THE city’s premier performing arts space will celebrate 15 years of entertaining the community, when it holds its 2024 season launch next week. Over the last 15 years, more than a million people have walked through the doors of the Wangaratta Performing Arts and Convention Centre, attending more than 1500 shows in the theatre, taking part in conferences,

participating in workshops and watching their children perform in school musicals. Its valuable contribution to arts and culture in our region is well-known to Rural City of Wangaratta acting manager arts culture and events, Tanya

Camplin - venue manager for over five years - who is proud of the opportunities and the joy the facility has brought to the local community. Its economic contribution has also been significant - with more than 405,000 tickets sold, turning over an estimated $10,000,000 in ticket sales - creating a ripple effect going well beyond the centre’s doors.

There have been challenges along the way, with COVID impacting performing arts and live shows in a way we couldn’t have imagined, but the sector appears to have bounced back better than ever. “We’re absolutely thrilled to be back to business as usual and for the venue to be celebrating 15 years, which is phenomenal,”

said Ms Camplin. “There’s nothing better than being in the foyer when audiences walk out of the theatre and seeing smiles on their faces, or deep in thought, or chatting about what they’ve just seen or heard on the stage. “It reflects the vibrancy of our community and all the different ways we celebrate the arts - from challenging

you laugh out loud.” Ms Camplin said each theatre season is brought together over a couple of years; the team working closely with the Victorian Association of Performing Arts Centres to showcase a range of diverse works, liaising with other venues to accommodate an artist’s or production’s touring schedule. ■ Continued page 6
