Train wait goes on Delivery of other two VLocity train sets by mid-2022 at the latest NORTH East line train passengers will have to wait up to another five months before all three six-carriage VLocity train sets are operational. A Department of Transport spokesperson confirmed that the other two train sets (12 carriages) have not yet undergone conversion works required to transform the train bogies to suit the standard gauge North East line. on December 30 last year, however, passengers have mainly had to put up with the 40 year old ‘classic’ fleet trains on the trips to and from Melbourne. Travel times on all the train services have remained the same with a trip from Wangaratta to Melbourne still taking
around three hours. Ovens Valley MP Tim McCurdy said the Victorian Government continues to make excuses for the lack of VLocity trains on the North East line into 2022. “While the government for Melbourne talks the big build in the city of Melbourne, North East residents can’t get trains on time as promised,” he said. “We have seen more spin and less train movement during 2021 and it looks set to continue.”

The Department of Transport confirmed with the Wangaratta Chronicle that all standard gauge VLocity trains will be delivered by mid-2022, replacing classic fleet trains on the line and providing passengers with a modern, comfortable journey between Melbourne and Albury. The Victorian Government is also delivering supporting infrastructure upgrades to optimise the North East line for VLocity trains, including level
crossing upgrades, stabling improvements at Albury Station and modifications to the stabling and maintenance facilities at South Dynon. It says reducing journey times of Albury services will be considered as part of a possible future timetable change once more VLocity services are operating on the line. Meanwhile, extreme heat timetables were in place on Seymour, Shepparton, Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill

line V/Line services on some days this week, as temperatures hit the 30s. Extreme heat timetables are implemented when temperatures exceed 36 degrees in order to reduce the likelihood of train and track faults, while also keeping passengers safe. During extreme heat trains run at slower than normal speeds and may depart and arrive at different times, and passengers are encouraged to allow extra time for their journeys.
