ORTH East Victoria is well known for its delights at this time of year. Everywhere you go, parks and gardens are bursting with colourful blooms, and people are taking full advantage of the warm spring weather. There is a festive atmosphere around the region as people indulge in a range of big local events. The internationally acclaimed Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues is a highlight in the region, promising several days of excellent music and entertainment, food, wine and fun, while the Bright Spring Festival is also popular. The High Country Spring Arts Festival attracts big crowds to MansďŹ eld each year, and in the King Valley the annual La Dolce Vita festival showcases the family hospitality, top notch local wine, and enviable cuisine that makes the valley so inviting. Tallangatta’s Fifties Festival, featuring music, markets and community fun, also attracts big crowds annually, and the Beechworth Celtic Festival draws in lovers of Celtic culture. These are just some of the many fun events taking place throughout the region. From the peaceful, scenic valleys to the breathtaking views that can be had in the alpine areas, tranquil waterways, beautiful bushland
and more, there are many diverse attractions throughout the North East. Take advantage of the inviting spring weather and enjoy some outdoor pursuits such as bushwalking, photography, ďŹ shing, aquatic pursuits, or simply meander through the region and explore the many attractions and activities available to the visitor. The region is Australia’s home for Italian varieties, an inspired combination of altitude, soil and climate and the passion of the winemaking families. Participate in wine and food festivals, on Queen’s Birthday weekend and third weekend in November each year, and enjoy new release wines, amazing food and a great atmosphere. Oxley wine turns heads B
'".*-: #64*/&44 Ross Gehrig is a ďŹ fth generation winemaker, carving out a niche in boutique wine in the peaceful rural town of Oxley.
EING a small, family operated winery in rural Victoria has not stopped John Gehrig Wines from making a big splash on the national stage. One of their latest triumphs has been the naming of their 2011 John Gehrig RG King Valley Riesling as a “Wow Factor Whiteâ€? in James Halliday’s recent wine guide, gaining a score of 94/100. “2011 wasn’t an easy vintage, but the Riesling made up for any shortcomings,â€? Mr Gehrig said in the guide. He described the wine as full of “fantasticâ€? avours, including lemon and lime elements, and added that the Riesling was a European style wine with “natural acidity and integrated avoursâ€?. The James Halliday guide described the wine as a “generous Riesling, already
drawing near to its best, infused with ripe lime avours and good acidityâ€?. Mr Gehrig said the 2015 vintage was a promising one for the winery, because the cool summer let the vines ripen easily, and the avours appeared earlier in the season. He said among the most promising varieties at the winery currently are the gamay, and added that 2015 “will show up some heavy reds and big fortiďŹ edsâ€?. “The early start to vintage surprised some in the industry‌ but you need to know your vines and have a bit of faith in your harvest decisions to call ‘pick now’,â€? he said. The winery’s release for spring will be the 2014 Riesling – so visitors are encouraged to pop out and give it a try this spring.

While you’re in the area, why not celebrate the Wangaratta Festival of Jazz and Blues by saying hi to the John Gehrig Wines team in one of the fabulous new event areas this festival. You can enjoy a wine tasting while enjoying some ďŹ ne tunes, and then on Monday, November 2, come out to the winery at Oxley and enjoy the sounds of John Luke Shelley & High Speed Steel with a catered lunch by Peter Cellars 47 from 12-3pm. The Gehrig family is proud of its reputation as one of the older winemaking family in Victoria, with its heritage stretching back to the late 1850s. John Gehrig, a fourth generation vigneron, established the vineyard and winery on the banks of the
King River, Oxley in 1976; and John’s son Ross took on the challenge of guiding the ďŹ fth winemaking generation of Gehrigs to craft some ďŹ ne wines. Armed with a wine science degree, international winemaking experiences in Alsace, Burgundy and Israel, Ross’s obsession is in producing the best grapes to produce wines of distinction that will pay homage to this iconic North East Victorian winery. His strengths and passion include Riesling, pinot noir and durif, but you will also ďŹ nd some hidden treasures like chenin blanc and pinot meunier. When you pay a visit to the winery over spring you may not think there is much happening, but the vineyard is certainly a hive of activity, with pruning being completed ready for the
STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER in YACKANDANDAH OCATED a short drive from Yackandandah on Osbornes Flat Road, Allans Flat, Schmidt’s Strawberry Winery has been a popular destination with visitors to the area for several decades. And during spring, the winery harvests its strawberries, with sales of fresh strawberries direct to the public at the winery between early September and Christmas. Fresh strawberries harvested at the winery, as well as being sold to customers and used for the wine itself, are also sold in selected supermarkets and through wholesalers. The winery is run by the Schmidt family –brothers Michael and Martin – and is
set among acres of strawberry ďŹ elds. The wine is made using traditional methods passed down through the family. Strawberries have been grown on the site since 1968, and the winery was ďŹ rst established in the 1970s by Johann Schmidt, whose family has been making fruit wines since the 15th century. Schmidt’s Strawberry wines are available in dry, semi dry or sweet varieties, and the range also includes strawberry liqueur. Schmidt’s Strawberry Winery is open seven days a week and opening hours are 9am-5pm Monday-Saturday, and 10am4pm on Sunday. More information is available by calling (02) 6027 1454.

OMESTIC overnight visitors to Albury-Wodonga hit a ďŹ ve-year high in 2014 with an increase of 18 per cent on the previous year. The data is a highlight of the inaugural joint tourism report between Wodonga Council and AlburyCity, which complements the cities’ new destination brand. Cr Rodney Wangman said the 2014 Albury Wodonga Visitor Economy Trends report supported the push for the recently unveiled Albury-Wodonga destination brand, which aims to celebrate a range of diverse experiences across outdoor and urban cultures in one unique destination, side by side. “This report plays a crucial role in understanding the economic beneďŹ t of tourism to Albury-Wodonga, as well as allowing us to understand the type of visitors and their purpose for visiting our cities,â€? he said. AlburyCity mayor Kevin Mayor said the data presented in this report was representative of
the Border’s strong tourism offerings as a twin city, and was an encouraging indicator for the future. “This knowledge not only helps us to direct future strategy, but it also assists potential investors to have a greater understanding of the market demand for tourism in our region,â€? he said. Key highlights > 1.15 million day visitors visited Albury-Wodonga during 2014 > Domestic overnight visitors have increased by 18.1 per cent, representing a ďŹ ve-year high > A total of 15,365 international visitors were recorded in the 2014 calendar year > Tourism injected about $751 million into the local economy in 2014 A full copy of the Albury Wodonga Visitor Economy Trends can be viewed on the Wodonga Council website and the AlburyCity website.

Trout cod ďŹ shing in Beechworth I
N an Australian ďŹ rst, recreational anglers can now ďŹ sh for trout cod in Victoria with the Andrews Labor Government delivering on a key election commitment to establish the ďŹ shery in Beechworth. Premier Daniel Andrews joined Minister for Agriculture Jaala Pulford and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes in Beechworth during August to ofďŹ cially open Lakes Sambell and Kerferd for trout cod ďŹ shing. The commitment to establish the ďŹ shery is a key part of the Labor Government’s Target One Million plan, aimed at getting more Victorians ďŹ shing more often. Prior to the announcement, anglers were required to return trout cod to the water if caught. Now thanks to the dedicated stocking program that has seen 45,000 baby trout cod ďŹ ngerlings released into the lakes since 2008, and support from the National Trout Cod Recovery Plan, anglers can legally ďŹ sh for trout cod in Beechworth. Trout cod ďŹ ngerling production at the government’s Snobs Creek Hatchery will expand and continue to support the recovery of the species in the wild, while further developing the two new ďŹ sheries.
DROPA LINE: Come and ďŹ sh for trout cod in Beechworth.
To ensure the ďŹ sheries are sustainable, harvest of trout cod will be restricted to a daily bag limit of one per angler, and complemented by a minimum size of 40cm and a maximum size of 50cm. Mr Andrews also announced $1 million worth of new recreational ďŹ shing projects to improve ďŹ shing opportunities across the state. The 17 new projects will be funded
by ďŹ shing licence fees and provide more recreational ďŹ shing opportunities for beginners and experts alike, whether they ďŹ sh in lakes, rivers, bays or offshore. The Labor Government’s Target One Million plan will boost ďŹ sh stocks from three to ďŹ ve million per annum, improve ďŹ shing and boating facilities and promote the great pastime of recreational ďŹ shing.

EECHWORTH craft-brewery Bridge Road Brewers is hosting its 11th annual Oktoberfest. Located in the heart of town, this small brewery has a swag of awards to its name, and is ready for this year’s celebration of beer and music. The event is based around the original Oktoberfest held in Munich in late September each year. This Beechworth Oktoberfest is probably as close as you will get to the real thing without forking out the dollars to y to Europe. The authenticity of this event is bolstered not only by the OhmPah band, traditional outďŹ ts and cuisine, but also by the beer brewed especially for the occasion. As is tradition in Munich, Bridge Road Brewers also brew their own Marzen, or Oktoberfest beer, more than two months ahead of the event. This allows for the beer to

age or ‘lager’ in tank for a prolonged period, resulting in a smooth malty lager, perfect for such a celebration. Brewery founders, Ben Kraus and his partner Maria Frischmann, have strong links to the Oktoberfest. Maria hails from the heart of the Tyrol region in Austria and has worked as a bier-maid at the Munich Oktoberfest.
Ben gained his brewing knowledge in the same region and has been brewing the Bridge Road beers for a little over six years. The brewery has come a long way from its origins in the family garage where the business spent its ďŹ rst year. Its relocation to an old coach house in Beechworth’s centre has proven a success.
Ben and Maria have recently returned from a trip to Austria and Germany. They managed to stock up on authentic Bavarian outďŹ ts to ensure the staff are kitted out for the weekend. Visitors are also encouraged to dress in the traditional Lederhosen or Dirndl (traditional Bavarian dress) and enjoy the festivities. The weekend will include plenty of beer, German cuisine and fun for all with a traditional ohm-pah band belting out some great drinking tunes. Oktoberfest Entertainment will be provided by Alpine Cocktail, specialists in German ohm-pah music. The Beechworth Oktoberfest will be held at Bridge Road Brewers, off Ford St, behind Tanswells Hotel, rear access from High Street. It will be held between 11am and 6pm on Saturday, October 10 and Sunday, October 11.

Completed in June 1858, it operated continuously as a working court for 131 years and has been the setting for some of the most fascinating court cases in Victoria’s history. The Precinct also includes the Chinese Protector’s OfďŹ ce, the Gold Warden’s OfďŹ ce, Police Stables, Police Lockup, Police Reserve, Town Hall, Robert O’Hara Burke Memorial Museum and the Powder Magazine, located a short distance from the Precinct complex.

IDDEN in the Woolshed Valley between Eldorado and Beechworth is one of North East Victoria’s best kept secrets, Barry Falls. Situated on a tributary of Reedy Creek, Barry Falls is most spectacular during the spring months when there is still plenty of water runoff from the hills. Barry Falls is an easy walk which is great for the whole family. An adult with average ďŹ tness can comfortably hike all the way in to the bottom of the waterfall in about 15 minutes. Here is how you get there: From Beechworth, head down the Beechworth-Wodonga Road and take the Chiltern turnoff to the left. Follow the ChilternBeechworth Road until it crosses Wooragee Creek. Straight after the bridge you will see Woolshed Road heading off to the left. Follow Woolshed Road all the way until you cross Kangaroo Crossing. About 100 metres past Kangaroo Crossing you will see Neioff Road heading to the left. Travel up Neioff road and you will see a track heading to the right called Warbler Track, continue past this and eventually you will come to another track heading to the right, also called Warbler Track. Park your car at the second Warbler Track intersection. By foot, walk along Warbler Track for a few hundred metres

until it crosses the little creek. At this point, another unnamed track veers off to the left before the creek crossing, following the creek upstream. Walk along this unnamed track for a couple of hundred metres until it comes to an end. Once you get to the end of this unnamed vehicular track, you just have to walk 400 metres approximately. There is a rough foot track there that you will see. If you do not see the track don’t stress, you can’t go wrong. Just follow the creek upstream. You will need to cross the creek as the opposite side is easier to walk along.

Host of events happening in Indigo Shire T
HERE is plenty going on throughout the Indigo Shire region this spring. September 13 will see the regular Rutherglen Farmers Market, held on the second Sunday of every month between 9am-12.30pm. The market regularly features dozens of local and regional producers offering an extensive range of fresh local produce and is held in Rutherglen’s Lions Park. Travel to Yackandandah on September 20 to peruse the goodies at the Yackandandah Lions Club Community Markets – everything from fruit and vegetables to olives and olive products, and much more. The market is held regularly on the third Sunday of every month, in Wellsford Street, Yackandandah. Wine enthusiasts can attend the Rutherglen Wine Show, held at the Rutherglen Agricultural Society on September 25. The public tasting portion of the show takes place on Friday, September 20, and offers an opportunity to taste some of the best commercial wines that Australia has to offer, plus some of the rare and exclusive fortiďŹ ed wines that Rutherglen is renowned for. The Beechworth Farmers Market, which

At the market you can ďŹ nd a good variety of local produce. The Chiltern Markets will be held on Sunday, October 4 on the grounds of Lake View House, from 10am-2pm. Cycling enthusiasts are set to ock to the Hard Yack Community Run/Ride, to be held from 8am on October 11, which is a cycle and cross country run for all ages. If you love discovering great secondhand
ďŹ nds, come to the Yackandandah Huge Town Garage Sale on October 18. All the fun of the Rutherglen Agricultural Show will also be happening on October 18, including horse events, animal exhibits, and the best in cooking, arts and crafts, just to name a few. There is even more cycle fun to be had in Rutherglen on October 24, when the Rotary Club of Rutherglen presents the Tour de Rutherglen. Tour de Rutherglen is an exciting road cycling event taking in the best of Rutherglen’s wine country while offering challenges for all sorts of ďŹ tness levels. Participants have the option of completing the 90km or 20km route for the Tour de Rutherglen, and all money raised goes to the Rutherglen Rotary Club to support local community and international projects. Chiltern will also be holding a town garage sale on Sunday, November 15, or if you feel like getting ďŹ t while raising money for cancer research, why not get involved on November 20 when Chiltern holds its Mo Walk and Run (there are also driving and equine events on the following day). New brewer makes his mark in Bright A
TOUCH of Germany, the spiritual home of beer, has been added to Bright Brewery this spring, with the addition of brewer Toby Dankert. Joining head brewer, Ryan Tyack, it’s the ďŹ rst time the small brewery in beautiful Bright has employed two brewers at the same time. Constant increasing demand for the craft beers of Bright Brewery, which are rarely available outside North East Victoria, led to the need for a second brewer. Toby was born in Gera, Germany, and started his brewing career at KĂśstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei, the home of the world famous KĂśstritzer Schwarzbier black lager. The alpine geography of Bright shares many similarities with the areas of central Germany where Toby has lived for most

of his life, which attracted him to the job opportunity on the other side of the world. When asked what he loves most about brewing, Toby didn’t hesitate in sharing his passion for the entire process. “The best thing for me is being integrated with the whole process, from developing the recipe through to drinking the ďŹ nal result,â€? Toby explained. “The most important part of being a brewer is when people compliment how
much they like the beer we made.â€? Toby’s ďŹ rst brew at Bright Brewery is, very appropriately, an Oktoberfest style beer, which will be released in late September just in time for the traditional Munich celebration of beer. There’s no better time than spring to enjoy a pint of traditional Oktoberfest beer on Bright Brewery’s magniďŹ cent Hop Terrace, overlooking the Ovens River and large adventure playground in the heart of Bright.

ISITORS to Bright will notice revitalised local events in years to come with the construction of the Alpine Events Centre set to create dozens of new jobs in the region. The project was allocated $1.87 million in the federal budget earlier this year under the National Stronger Regions Fund and will create about 70 new jobs and $16.5million in direct expenditure in the Alpine Shire and the region, once it is up and running. Alpine Shire Council CEO, Dave Barry, welcomed the funding, saying council had increased its commitment to events and festivals over the past ďŹ ve years in direct response to tourism industry feedback and had therefore been able to attract and develop new events. “We’ve developed the Alpine Events Centre concept by working with other partners including the private sector and community groups. “Many have committed cash and in-kind support to this facility,â€? Mr Barry said. “It’s also satisfying to see that our recent efforts to increase efďŹ ciencies have enabled us to present and deliver a project of this scale for the community,â€? he said. “This will be a three-year project starting by involving all the interest groups including users of Pioneer Park and tourism bodies in the development of the detailed designs.
“During the construction phase there will be 35 new jobs created. “This is a real boost for the region and certainly the council and I would really like to thank the federal government for the grant,â€? he said. The $3.74 million Alpine Events Centre will be developed on the 30-hectare site of Pioneer Park in Bright and is expected to attract national and international events. It will deliver a scalable, innovative outdoor events space which can be used for a variety of events including music, special interest clubs, sporting, mountain biking and community events. It includes a major renovation to the Bright football and netball clubrooms, construction of mountain bike tracks and new infrastructure. “Currently the shire hosts 80 annual tourism focused events. “This new centre will increase overnight visitors to the shire by more than 30 per cent to more than 84,000 annually. This is great news for the region, but especially Alpine Shire and for all the support industries associated with events,â€? he said. Mr Barry thanked HVP Plantations, Alpine Community Plantations, the Alpine Cycling Club and the United Bright Football and Netball Club that had all committed ďŹ nancially and/or in-kind to the project.

Spring equals non stop action A
FTER winter’s long hibernation, MansďŹ eld will burst back into life this spring. Art and glass exhibitions, festivals, car rallies, drinking and feasting are all on the menu for what promises to be a crowded calendar. For the Spring Graze on Setptember 13, chefs, artisan producers, gourmet providers and Upper Goulburn wine makers will combine their talents to produce a feast worthy of a king. Two new events are the High Country Spring Fling on September 18, a formal cocktail fund-raiser which requires your best and ‘blingest’ outďŹ t and MansďŹ eld Wedding Fair the following day to promote the destination as the place to get hitched. MAGE (MansďŹ eld Art Glass Exposition) in October attracts entries from all over
Australia and New Zealand and provides viewers with the opportunity to experience the wonders of glass art - not to be missed. Spring Arts, also in October, turns the streets of MansďŹ eld into one long art gallery, with cafes and shops displaying the works of talented local arts. The MansďŹ eld High Country Festival kicks off on October 30 with Marks Supa IGA Sideshow Carnival and Crockett Cottage Rock Out followed by the torchlight parade and a spectacular ďŹ reworks display. Dozens of decorated oats, bikes, horses and various community groups will travel through the town to the delight of the crowds in the Martins Garage Grand Parade on Saturday, October 31. There are over 20 other engaging community events being held during MansďŹ eld
High Country Festival which then ďŹ nishes with the fabulous MansďŹ eld Picnic Races on Melbourne Cup day, November 3. Targa High Country, the following weekend, is getting bigger and better each year and this year’s street stage is sure to excite - stay tuned. Lake Eildon Festival is expanding to two lakeside locations this year - Bonnie Doon and Goughs Bay - and is
a wonderful collaboration of water sports, fun, family and friends. A specially produced ‘Spring In’ events brochure will be available from various outlets in and around town for visitors to pick up. ARYSVILLE will come alive in October with the introduction of the Marysville Jazz & Blues weekend over October 16 to 18. Organised by a small group of local people who love jazz and blues the Marysville Jazz & Blues Weekend is a not-forproďŹ t event and a percentage of any proďŹ t will be given to charity and the remainder used for future years. The festival will take place in Murchison Street, Marysville and other locations around the ‘triangle’, and include a ‘New Orleans’ style street parade along Murchison Street at noon on Saturday, buskers performing around Marysville on Saturday and Sunday, and the main concert venue operating Saturday. Other venues will be operating continuously around the district. Some of the state’s top jazz and blues performers
are really excited about the prospect of coming up to Marysville and being part of the event. There is a wealth of local talent from around Murrindindi who will also feature prominently on the program. Where is it happening? Much of the action will be centred on the main street, Murchison Street in Marysville. There will be a major ticketed concert on the Saturday night and shopkeepers in Marysville will be invited to deck out their shops for the occasion with the best one receiving a prize. Buskers will be playing in many nooks and crannies around the town throughout the weekend. Other venues around the district will be invited to host events and visitors will be able to wine and dine at some of the best locations in the area.

BUMPER harvest at EV Olives, and ideal owering and fruit set conditions, have resulted in the biggest harvest ever at the EV Olives groves in Markwood. Every year the seasons result in different oils and this year the dry mild autumn resulted
in early maturing fruit with the harvesting machine busy from May 1. The oils produced are typically vibrant early season with robust avours ideal for dipping with local breads or adding interest to your favourite foods. Try the garlic infused oil with
roast veggies and the trufe infused oil suits drizzling on hot risotto. The robust extra virgin oil is perfect to liven up any salad. The higher phenol content provides more health beneďŹ ts according to University of California Davis Olive Center.

#F TVSF UP WJTJU UIF Oxley Bush Market T
O experience one of the best ‘bush markets’ in Victoria, a visit to the 36th Annual Oxley Bush Market, scheduled for Saturday, October 31 at the historic Oxley Shire Hall, is a ‘must’ over the Wangaratta Jazz Festival weekend. Commencing at 9am and in full swing until 3pm, the market will feature over 170 stalls selling an unbelievable range of homemade, home grown,
home-produced and new items, with something on offer for all visitors. The Oxley Shire Hall Committee, which organises the event, is anticipating another extremely successful ‘market day’, and hall secretary, Janet Heath, said the bargains on offer again promise to be ‘amazing’. “Apart from the great support we receive from local stallholders, many also travel
long distances to the market and large crowds are again expected to ock to Oxley,â€? she said. “Many people come to take advantage of the specials on offer, but others come to simply enjoy the atmosphere and meet up with old friends.â€? While many of the stallholders are regulars to the market, this year again sees numerous â€˜ďŹ rst timers’ hawking their goods. Rides for the children, drinks and toe-tapping music will add to the festive atmosphere. “The market is in full swing right up until closing time, so those wishing to avoid the morning crowds will ďŹ nd
everything happening all day. “And, of course, the hall committee starts drawing the monster community rafe from about 2.30pm,â€? Mrs Heath said. The Oxley Bush Market is again an ofďŹ cial “Waste Wiseâ€? event and the committee is encouraging stallholders and visitors alike to ‘put the right thing in the right bin’. Entry is free, and dogs are not permitted (guide dogs excepted). The market is also a ‘no smoking’ event. MYRTLEFORD
Enjoy ever changing Empire S
PRING is always a beautiful time of year in the tranquil themed gardens at Myrtleford’s Kaceen Empire, and this year there are more reasons to visit than ever, according to owners Robyn and Kevin Norris. The garden, which showcases the many different kinds of garden ornaments and other items available to purchase from Kaceen Empire, is set to look its green, luscious best after a wet winter, and children and adults alike who are visiting the garden are sure to make a beeline for the recently completed treehouse. Decked out in comfort for visitors, the treehouse boasts a stack of storybooks, many of which are fairy themed, to create a charming environment for parents and their children to enjoy reading together. The treehouse also features an enviable vantage point from which visitors can see most of the garden. As the weather warms up, the gardens are also an ideal spot to host a barbecue or children’s birthday party (bookings of 10+ people are required for most events, and 15+ people for barbecues). The acre and a half garden has been developed over several years as a way to showcase Kaceen Empires’ entire range of over 500 garden ornaments, and features a host of smaller linked, themed areas. These include the medieval

archway, the stone Welsh cottage, the pioneer hut and blacksmith’s shop, the mysterious and magical “wizard’s home, fairy garden, and more. Stop on the peaceful banks of Barwidgee Creek and take in the serenity sitting at an ornamental bench alongside imposing Greek and Romanesque statues. With the coming of spring the gardens are expected to be bursting with bright colours and wonderful scents, vivid parrots and dainty fairy wrens. At Kaceen there is plenty for
everyone to enjoy, plus lots of innovative ideas to inspire and delight all garden lovers. Guided tours through the gardens are available on weekends or by private arrangement, or visitors can take self guided strolls. Cost of admission to the garden is $5 for adults and children are admitted free. After the destruction of 2009 bushďŹ res, Kaceen have developed a new and extensive catalogue of garden ornaments all made and stocked on site; including bird baths, fountains, pavers, pots, planters, pedestals

ESTLED in the heart of Longwood is a treasure trove of delights for those interested in a wide range of rocks, crystals, gems and jewellery. The Rockery Gemstone Museum opened on Hill Street more than 17 years ago and in its nine rooms contains thousands of fossils, crystals and rare rocks on display and for sale. Rockery owner and long time Longwood resident Maurie Brodie is the man to speak to, having built his growing collection of stones for more than 50 years. Maurie’s favourite stones are the Agates, Tiger Eye and Jasper stones, which are all hits with the customers. “The Rockery is the only gem stone museum in north eastern Victoria and it has really put Longwood on the map. “People from all over the world have searched for us on Google and come to visit. “Our biggest sellers would be jewellery.
“Customers love the therapeutic value of the crystals.â€? For sale item prices at the Rockery range from as little as 10 cents to $900 for stones, fossils, crystals, tumble stone and jewelry. “The Rockery is a great place to get that something special at an affordable price. “For anyone interested in rocks, crystals and gems, come on down to the Rockery to ďŹ nd what you’ve been looking for.â€? The Rockery now feature a new range of jewellery from Indonesia and Thailand, featuring light and dainty pieces. The Rockery Gemstone Museum can be found at 31-33 Hill Street, Longwood. It is open from Wednesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm and all school and public holidays and the venue also has a Facebook page. Bus and tour groups are welcome by appointment.

WANGARATTA
Wangaratta welcomes NVTJD MPWFST UP KB[[ DPVOUSZ T HE 2015 Wangaratta Jazz and Blues festival invites music lovers from across the nation to jazz country in Victoria’s North East. Across the four days and nights of the pre-Melbourne Cup Day long weekend – Friday, October 30 to Monday, November 2 Wangaratta will play host to more than 300 musicians in over 80 concerts on the main program, and over 16 concerts on the new Riverside Precinct free stage. Following the success of its 25th anniversary program in 2014, Wangaratta Jazz and Blues enters a new era of growth with the addition of two exciting new spaces at the 2015 festival – the new ticketed outdoor Gardens Stage in the idyllic King George Gardens and the free Riverside Stage along Faithfull Street, overlooking the Ovens River. Artistic director Adrian Jackson says the diverse program of jazz, blues and crossover

music signals an exciting new chapter in the festival’s 26th year. “The international line-up features some outstanding artists, notably the acclaimed trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas (USA). “The Cuban explorations of Canadian saxophonist Jane Bunnett with her band Maqueque will be a big hit, as will the famous kings of boogie ‘n’ blues, Canned Heat, over at the Blues Marquee, said Jackson. “The Australian line-up is equally strong with the hugely popular James Morrison, the unstoppable Joe Camilleri, an acoustic, jazz-
leaning set from popular rock band Thirsty Merc, while Finn-Land will see singers Emma Pask and Darren Percival putting a jazz spin on the songs of Tim Finn and Neil Finn. The Gardens Stage will play host to Thirsty Merc Acoustic, James Morrison, Old Gray Mule (USA), Joe Camilleri’s Voodoo Kings, Finn-Land with Emma Pask and Darren Percival, Wilbur Wilde’s Blowout, Los Cabrones and more. Early bird tickets are available until September 30, with full festival details available at www.wangarattajazz.com.

Dindi Naturals growing all the time P
IP Guyatt, founder and creator of Dindi Naturals, has created a line of products that are as natural as you are ever likely to ďŹ nd. Genuinely made and manufactured by Pip herself, Dindi Naturals was created when Pip’s son could not ďŹ nd a soap that didn’t irritate his dry and eczema prone skin. “My son had bad eczema and I just could not ďŹ nd a product that didn’t make it worse – so I started doing a bit of research myself and found a lot of positive information about goat’s milk, and I had a dabble at making some soap.â€? It was a dabble that would change the course of Pip’s life. From soap made in her kitchen, Pip has expanded – ďŹ rst to a dedicated room in her home, then a shed, then a bigger shed and ďŹ nally to the ofďŹ cial Dindi Naturals, recently opened in a purpose built shopfront at Yarck.
Pip Guyatt has opened a new shopfront at Yarck to showcase her luxurious Australian Products, Dindi Naturals.
Her products started with just soap but now include liquid hand wash, moisturisers, shampoo and conditioners, massage oil and balms and are stocked across the country, with
international stockists also on the horizon. “I try to source locally-grown ingredients and packaging materials from right here in Australia – because that is what
Dindi Naturals is all about. The name too is home grown, taken directly from the Murrindindi Shire, the home of Dindi Naturals – it also means mist of the mountains. Although the company has been going for almost seven years, Pip needed a bigger processing area and decided to invest in her home shire and purpose built the new showroom. Featuring a full line of Dindi Naturals products, Pip has also encouraged other local producers to be involved and stocks local artworks, furniture, food and produce. Dindi Naturals is open Wednesday to Sunday, 9.30am to 4.30pm, school and public holidays, and provides an opportunity to view the complete range of aromatic Dindi products. Dindi Naturals is also available online at www.dindinaturals.com.
