Carmela Aiello will call Australia home for the next 12 months basing herself in Nagambie to experience the culture of regional Victoria. Carmela comes to us from Italy, from Ischia which is a volcanic island in the Gulf of Naples. Situated on the Amalfi coast with neighbouring islands such as Capri and Sorento. Ischia is known for its mineral-rich thermal waters. Hot springs bubble up at Maronti Beach, in the south and Roman remains lie beneath the sea floor at Cartaromana Beach. The beach has views of the medieval Aragonese Castle, linked to Ischia by a stone bridge. Nearby, 18th-century Palazzo dell’Orologio houses the Sea Museum, devoted to Ischia’s fishing tradition. Carmela Aiello is Emilia Golding’s niece. Emilia and her husband Paul operate the well known Top Pub in High Street Nagambie. Emilia’s family hails from The beautiful island of Ischia. Carmela has dreamt of coming to Australia for many

years and with limited opportunity for young people and the worry of finding work without being taken advantage of it isn’t any surprise that Carmela has spent the last 4 years talking with Emilia about coming and working in Nagambie. A few months ago, Carmela plucked up the courage and booked her flight. She has a 12 month working holiday visa, and Nagambie will have 12 months to get to know her. She landed in Melbourne on December 1 and celebrated her 22nd birthday on December 7th with staff and customers and a special cake. Paul and Emilia didn’t waste anytime to introducing Carmela to fundraising in the community. The Community Voice had the pleasure of meeting Carmela at the regatta centre on December 14 where she was cooking pizza and greeting locals. Carmela loves what she has seen so far in Nagambie with the community being so welcoming and looks forward to the 12 months ahead.
