SPRINT sensation Gout Gout is one of many talented Aussies with their eyes firmly on the prize as they chase glory at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Fresh off breaking the magical 10-second barrier for the 100m at a low-key school event in Queensland, the 17-year-old will make his long-awaited debut at a senior international event when he competes in his preferred 200m.
Other rising stars chasing a coveted spot on the podium at the nine-day event include Claudia Hollingsworth, who broke the national 800m record, and middle-distance runner Cameron Myers.
Elsewhere, Olympic pole vault champion Nina Kennedy will return from injury to defend her 2023 title.
The always excitable Bruce McAvaney is behind the mic once again to call all of the thrilling action, alongside former world indoor 800m champion Tamsyn Manou and renowned SBS commentator David Basheer. McAvaney said Australian viewers should be optimistic about the prospects of their national team at the biennial event.
“This is athletics at its finest,” he said.
“A world championship is as great a challenge as an Olympics. But this Australian team boasts as much depth as
I can remember. You have to think that we are in a golden age, coming off the back of Paris.
“And then we have exceptional new talent coming through, like Gout Gout. He may be 17, but I think it’s possible for him to reach the 200m final in Tokyo, which would be an extraordinary achievement at his age – even Usain Bolt couldn’t do that.”

Refusing to believe that the death of the Arconia’s beloved doorman, Lester (Teddy Coluca) was an accident, our trio of amateur investigators (Selena Gomez, Steve Martin and Martin Short, pictured from left) take on a bigger mystery than ever before. In season five, Mabel, Charles and Oliver uncover a dangerous web connecting their neighbours to the city’s criminal underworld.
He wants to focus on local coverage and telling the stories that matter to the industrial city, but doesn’t have the budget to increase headcount or salaries.
Ned’s dedication to the cause inspires those around him, with truck drivers, ad salesmen and accountants all willing to pitch in and become his amateur news team.
The ragtag crew of volunteer newshounds also just happen to be the new subjects of the mockumentary team that immortalised Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch in The Office
Often questioned about a reboot of the hit US series, showrunner Greg Daniels found the idea of creating a new series that shared the tone of the original a more intriguing idea.
“The impetus for The Paper is that it’s the 20th anniversary of the original [in-universe] documentary, and the same crew goes back to see what’s become of all the people they followed at Dunder Mifflin,” explains Daniels.
“This leads them to a newspaper, where they discover Oscar now works. The crew becomes very interested in the story of this historic but struggling local paper.”
The Office cast member Oscar Nuñez reprises his role as accountant Oscar Martinez, who is more than reluctant to participate in another corporate documentary.
Also starring comedians Tim Key (Alan Partridge) and Alex Edelman, along with Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus), this new workplace sitcom looks very good on paper. – Lauren Mitchell

AUSTIN
ABC TV, Sunday, 7.30pm
Habitual scene-stealer Sally Phillips (pictured) never fails to make an impression onscreen, whether it be as one of Bridget Jones’s besties or in the brilliant political comedy Veep. The talented Brit has charmed viewers further as exasperated showrunner Ingrid in season two of this laugh-out-loud sitcom, which wraps up with tonight’s finale “Thunder Thursday”. Furious once she realises that the actor in the Big Bear suit is in fact her estranged husband Julian (Ben Miller), Ingrid quits their TV series and prepares to head back to the UK. Elsewhere, Austin (Michael Theo) tries to redeem himself after his ego-fuelled antics.

But seven weeks in, with 100 members of the public about to descend upon the site for the Open House challenge and $50,000 on the line, the reality of the competition is starting to dawn on the teams. Former shopping buddies Britt and Alicia go their separate ways, and Sonny (pictured with Alicia) takes a tiff about timber to the next level, but they’re just getting started. At the chumps’ dinner, House 4 incites a fiery body corporate meeting about Robby and Mat’s underground wine cellar that may prove to be the season’s real game changer.

The hilarious Anne Edmonds oversees (and occasionally causes) the mayhem as the trio of teams clash in a series of cheekily titled games and nostalgic trivia rounds sure to have viewers shouting at the screen. Rising star Anisa Nandaula leads the blindly confident “zoomers”, millennial Tommy Little plays it cool as gen Y captain and Dave Hughes ups the X factor for those aged 45-plus. Tuesday’s premiere welcomes Todd McKenney, Carrie Bickmore and Will Gibb to the chaos.

Vet GETTING A GREYHOUND
By RSPCA KNOWLEDGEBASE
Welcoming a greyhound into your family is a rewarding and exciting time.
These gentle dogs make wonderful companions, but they do have specific needs when it comes to health, wellbeing and day-today care.
Read on for some top tips to help care for your greyhound.
Feeding and weight:
A balanced diet is vital.
Choose a premium dog food suited to their age and health, and if changing diets, transition slowly over a week.
Greyhounds are naturally lean; you should see a waist and feel ribs under a thin layer of fat.
Avoid overfeeding, as extra weight can strain joints and cause health issues.
Health and prevention:
Keep vaccinations up to date to protect against diseases such as parvovirus and kennel cough.
Regular worming is essential, and ask you should ask your veterinarian about heartworm prevention.
Fleas and ticks also need year-round control, especially paralysis ticks if you’re in a risk area.
Seasonal care:
Greyhounds have little body fat which means
greyhounds feel the cold.
If the temperature drops below 15°C, they will likely need a coat outside.
In hot weather, make sure to provide shade, plenty of water or air conditioning.
Grooming and dental care:
Greyhounds can be low maintenance when it comes to grooming, needing only occasional baths.
Dental care is important, as greyhounds are prone to problems; your veterinarian can advise on prevention.
Remember to keep their nails trimmed, especially if they aren’t walked on hard surfaces often.
Exercise and enrichment:
Most greyhounds need about an hour of daily exercise.
They are sprinters, not endurance runners, so build stamina gradually.
Always walk greyhounds on lead unless in a secure area, as their chase instinct is strong.
Enrichment such as toys, puzzles, and training helps with mental stimulation.
Ensure your dog is microchipped, desexed, and registered with council, and keep paperwork up to date.
With proper care, health, and enrichment, your greyhound will enjoy a long, happy life by your side.

Health Debunking vitamin B6
By BELINDA McPHERSON, BHSci. NATUROPATHY OF SEED HEALTH SOLUTIONS
Vitamin B6 is certainly having its moment in the media of late.
B6 can be found in a wide variety of foods including cereals, grains, meats, plant foods, and more.
B6 fortification allows nutrient deficiencies to be addressed in populations that have limited access to diversity of fresh and whole foods.
Food such as cereals, UP&GO, energy drinks, and bread can all be fortified with B6. There are currently no warnings on fortified foods to bring to your attention the dangers of having excess of these.
For example, Nutri-Grain’s serving size is 400g, but most teenagers are having six times this amount as a serving size.
Coupled with an energy drink or a sandwich and you are starting to add up your B6 dietary intake.
You can make 35-80 per cent of your own B6 in a healthy microbiome, and a variety of factors can affect the amount of B6 you require, as well as the way you absorb, transport, use and excrete this vitamin.
B6 is used widely in supplements due to its
need in over 160 functions in the body, such as the nervous system, immunity, gut and brain health.
The way your GP tests your B6 can dramatically affect the result and interpretation.
Fasting, supplements, and alcohol levels; these are all things I consider as a naturopath. There has been calls for B supplements to be restricted from general purchase because of reported alleged links to peripheral neuropathy.
What has not been discussed is whether this person purchased the product over the counter, had no follow up care, what other health aspects may have affected their metabolism and excretion of B6, and what fortified food they were consuming.
This is the type of assessment you get from me in clinic.
So you see, B6 and its suggested peripheral neuropathy link isn’t as clear, simple or as accurate as often discussed in the media. Health is wealth, so if you are taking overthe-counter supplements or would simply like to discuss your individual needs for B6 - especially if it has been a while since you checked in with me - this may be the time to invest in the most important asset you have: your health.
Fishing SLOW TROUT OPENING
Tool Talk
By ROBBIE ALEXANDER, WANGARATTA
The Victorian trout fishing season opened on Saturday after being closed since King’s birthday weekend in June.
I fished three small tributaries of the Ovens and King rivers where I found the fishing to be quite slow.
I managed to catch three small trout - one rainbow and two browns - for the morning.
My overall feeling is that the season is starting better than last year, but is still not great.
I used a number of small diving minnow lures and a variety of different coloured soft plastic lures.
Overall it was the one inch Strike Tiger Nymph in ‘trout roe’ colour and a Micro Minnow in ‘black and gold’ colour that worked the best for me.
Although the fishing was slow, I definitely saw more fish than this time last year which is a great sign.
Most were small, but they will grow quickly if we can get enough rain.
Sadly I fished some of my old favourite haunts and there were still no sign of any fish.
From what I have been told and what I have seen, fishing reports have been hit and miss.
The Goulburn River which is usually a stand out trout fishery on open weekend was pretty slow.
Some people caught one or two trout but there seems to be a lot of people reporting online that they caught nothing.
I do know that there were some nice trout caught in the Snowy Creek near Mitta Mitta on opening morning.
Last Friday my friend Sonny and I headed over to Broken Creek at Katamatite.
I have been over there a few times recently, and this time the fishing was better.
Sadly, all we caught were carp, but there were plenty of them.
I caught five carp and a yabby on my fishing line, all using worms as bait.
