ENOVATION reality TV behemoth The Block is embarking on its 21st season – one which will see the show celebrate its 1000th episode – with Scott Cam and Shelley Craft (both pictured) once again at the helm, but they are still finding ways to keep things fresh. “What the audience can expect from this year is what I would call a classic Block series,” says showrunner Julian Cress. This season, the action will take place in the idyllic Victorian spa town of Daylesford (“a very beautiful town with an amazing community,” says Cress), and the first twist on the format is a massive one: instead of renovating existing
properties, the teams will be working on new builds designed by resident architect Julian Brenchley. “For the contestants, it’s a fresh start every week,” Craft says. “Rather than a dirty, grubby, messy start where they had to demolish a room and rebuild it in a week, to come into a clean frame is a much better mindset to be in.” But there’s another major change on the cards this time around – allnighters are now banned, which may throw a spanner in the works for those who find time management a bit of a challenge.
