A Christmas worth saving for.
HELPING others make a peaceful and comfortable home in the North East is a constant calling for Myrtleford resident Caterina Revrenna. She was recently recognised for her work by the Victorian Multicultural Commission, and in December was honoured at the Multicultural Awards for Excellence. Caterina was recognised for her many achievements, including her role as a founding member of the North East Multicultural Association (NEMA) and the North East Multicultural Aged Care Connections Project in the Myrtleford region. Migrating with her family from Italy as an infant, raised in Gippsland before making Myrtleford her home, Mrs Revrenna said she has always cherished being part of strong communities. “Australia’s built on multiculturalism,” she said. “There’s no other place in the world like Australia, and it needs to be celebrated. “There’s so much to celebrate.” She said she was very proud to have received the award. “I was thrilled just to be nominated.” She said she has fulfilled a number of roles within NEMA since its foundation, including working with aged members of the migrant community, promoting events such as Harmony Day, being active in the La Fiera event Nonna in Cucina, and helping to assemble NEMA’s annual get together. More recently she trained to become a cultural advocate, making her a contact point for both new and established migrants to come to for information and support. “We are trying to raise awareness that we are there and they can approach us,” she said. continued page |
