HAVING released her debut album this month at the tender age of 14, Wangaratta’s Jasmine Scholz has found music a powerful emotional outlet over the course of her short life. At just 14, Jasmine has already been writing and producing songs for two years, and the culmination of this effort saw the release of her first single, Dangerously Beautiful, last month, followed by her debut album, In My Shoes, this month. “I just fell in love with music,” said Jasmine, a year 10 student at Wangaratta’s Galen College. “After being introduced to the guitar in late primary school, I realised that music provided me with an outlet for my frustrations and fears and allowed me to relax. “I started to write songs and put a few guitar chords to them, not knowing where it was all going to lead.” Like many young people her age, Jasmine has experienced the trauma of bullying, and songwriting has helped her deal with that pain, with ‘In My Shoes’ originally written when she was just 12. “I was being bullied at school,” said Jasmine.
