WHEN Jacinta Farragher was growing up on her family’s farm at Everton, her dream was to one day write a children’s book. Fast forward to 2022, and Jacinta (nee Chamberlain) is busily promoting her first publication, ‘Joy’s Journey’, while also working on upcoming releases. “When I was going to Everton Primary School, I remember Graeme Base coming to visit to read his books - at that stage, he had done ‘Animalia’, and possibly ‘The Eleventh Hour’ too - and they were just beautiful,” she said. “Listening to him made me realise you could do this for a living, and that was inspirational for me.” Jacinta, who also attended Galen Catholic College, said a recent opportunity to read ‘Joy’s Journey’ to students at her son’s school in Geelong made her reflect on that impactful visit by the celebrated Australian author/illustrator, and her own journey to publication. “I had been working in administration, and ended up working for a design studio and doing content writing for their website and for some of their clients,” she said. “That was fun, but it wasn’t really what my role was.
