FROM strumming her first chords under the tutelage of her late father, to winning a Telstra Road to Discovery Award and recording in Canada and the USA, Beechworth singer songwriter Liv Cartledge has come a long way. She started performing as a tween, busking on the streets of Beechworth before moving into playing gigs with her father, which she fondly remembers as her “apprenticeship”. “I’ve been pretty lucky, having been able to be exposed to the live music and pub scene at such a young age,” Liv said. She has spent the past few years focusing more on her music, dividing her time between Brunswick and the North East, and won a Telstra Road to Discovery award in 2015. “This quickly turned my long term goals into a 12 month plan, and gave me the invaluable opportunity to go to the USA and Canada to play some shows and record my debut EP, Timber,” Liv said. “The award was a huge part of the last couple of years for my music and also being able to move forward professionally. “The support and networks I’ve gained have been absolutely invaluable.” Liv worked with award winning producer Daniel Ledwell in Lake Echo, Novia Scotia in Canada, as well as working with Neilson Hubbard in one of America’s largest music hubs, Nashville. “Those guys were absolute magicians in the studio,” she said, lauding the inspiration and energy she drew from Nashville’s live music scene. “It’s just so full of life and exciting in Nashville. “Every venue along Broadway had a band playing every night.” continued page |
