Volunteers restoring the Winton Wetlands By CHLOE JAENICKE
THE Winton Wetlands is continuing to be restored thanks to the help of passionate volunteers, including Di Cornish. Ms Cornish has been volunteering for the wetlands since she retired around four and a half years ago. “I like to feel useful, be outside and work with other people,” she said. “I was looking for something to do and I was made very welcome at the wetlands.” As a volunteer, Di was involved in many projects including planting and reptile surveys in the spring and autumn, introducing native fish back into the water and most recently working on re-introducing growling grass frogs into the wetlands. Her role in re-introducing the growling grass frogs into the wetlands has been observing and feeding them at night time and releasing them from quarantine. “The best thing was releasing them from quarantine,” she said.
