FOR Carboor resident Libby Jones, the six months since her breast cancer diagnosis in December last year has been a whirlwind of surgery and chemotherapy treatments. But in the midst of hospital visits, and losing her hair and eyebrows as a result of her treatments, she has been touched by the generosity of others. Earlier this year she took the opportunity to take part in the Look Good…Feel Better program, hosted at Villa Maria in Wangaratta, which benefits cancer patients from throughout the North East. “It’s not the sort of thing I would normally do, but the people were so supportive and kind,” she said. “It gives you a warm, fuzzy feeling…that people are thinking of you.” During the workshop, Libby did everything from try on wigs and head coverings to learn how to draw on eyebrows and adapt her makeup routine during her illness. She said learning these skills, and trying out some new looks, helped boost her self-esteem during a difficult time in her life. “For me, it does give you more confidence,” Libby said. “It means so much, and the volunteers were wonderful. continued page |
