SHARING friendly conversation on their patio, amid the sounds of buzzing bees in the garden and the excited barks of their friendly pooch Cooper, Kate Marsh and partner Ralph Nottingham are the picture of contentment. Their lives today are a million miles from their fast paced previous existence, when Kate worked a corporate office job and Ralph was a manual laborer, holding down various jobs from surface drilling to forklift driving and rubbish collection. Wanting to make the change to a sustainable lifestyle but finding few educational resources to make that move, they decided to start their own organisation, Creative Collectives. Kate learned much about sustainability by exploring ecovillages in England, Ireland, Scotland and France, and volunteering at relevant farms in Australia and overseas. She said the pair were keen to encourage others to adopt sustainable lifestyles. “It was about getting people together to take the next step in sustainability,” Kate said. The pair eventually made the move to Eldorado and hope to eventually establish their own School for Self Sufficiency farm, once red tape around their choice of land can be reduced. continued page |
