The Dunners set for Battle of the Bands grand final AFTER winning the Wangaratta heat of the North East Battle of the Bands in October last year, local band The Dunners will be performing at the grand final against other heat winners on January 20. The band’s drummer, Edan van Bergen, said 2023 was the second year they had won the local heat of Battle of the Bands and that last year was more challenging than the first time they competed. “This time there were more bands and
even some from Melbourne,” he said. “They were all adults, so it felt like there was a bit of added pressure to come out on top.” The Dunners began to form at the end of 2021 when Edan and band guitarist Oliver Chambers decided to form their own band

outside of school with other members of their music class. “Right at the end of 2021 we found Josh (Robbo), he had just moved to Wangaratta High School and we were looking for a bassist and he told us he could play bass and it turns out he was incredible at bass,” he said. “Then in 2022 Xavier (Zachariou) was in our music class and we had been in a class together for ages. “We just thought it would be perfect since
we’re all in the same music class we could start a band right then and there and we could practise songs in class and practise songs for us outside of school.” The Dunners began releasing original music last year with their three singles ‘The Lot’, ‘More Than Ever’ and ‘Out of Step’. Edan said the response to their music has been surreal as their monthly listener count on Spotify continues to grow.
