North East
PEER into the pages of books by North East author Glenna Thomson, and the region’s rugged landscapes and unique people leap out at you from every page. Her first novel, Blueberry, concentrated on the burgeoning friendship between a single mother and an old farmer and was set on a blueberry orchard. Glenna recently penned her second novel Stella and Margie, which concentrates on the relationship between compassionate Stella and her prickly and demanding, yet vulnerable, mother in law Margie. When Margie is injured and forced to return to her matrimonial home suddenly these two women must learn to work together. Speaking from her home nestled in the Strathbogies near Euroa, where she has lived for the past 15 years with her husband, Glenna said she cast a wide net for inspiration when writing her latest book. She said she delved into the world of community theatre, working with Wangaratta theatre identity Lorraine Monshing and sitting in on rehearsals at theatre groups in Wangaratta and Benalla.
