THERE’S plenty of cause for celebration in the MasterChef kitchen these days – not only is the series nominated for three Logie Awards, but after 12 weeks of competition, the remaining Back to Win contestants are truly at the top of their game.
“We are at the extremely pointy end of the competition now and it just keeps heating up,” says judge Sofia Levin, who’s in the running for the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent.
“The contestants are the best they’ve ever been, yet somehow they continue to grow and redefine themselves at an exponential rate.
“We have seriously talented guest chefs coming up, from a sweet mix of new and old – think a challenge with our first-ever winner
Julie Goodwin, and our most recent winner, Nat Thaipun – to those who are leaving their stamp on the world stage thanks to the unique way they approach ingredients and dishes, like Vaughan Mabee from Amisfield Restaurant in Aotearoa/New Zealand.”
The series’ current quartet of judges –Jean-Christophe Novelli, Poh Ling Yeow, Andy Allen and Levin – began filming their first season together in 2023, which just now being recognised by the Logie Awards.
Levin couldn’t be more excited to see their work nominated for Best Competition Reality Program and to have her friend and colleague Ling Yeow up for the Gold Logie.
“To have our MasterChef Australia fam up for three nominations for our first season together is so heartening!” enthuses Levin.
“I think it speaks to how much people connect with the joy of the competition and its uplifting nature. It’s very cool to have both female hosts nominated for awards, and while I’m incredibly flattered to be up for New Talent, I’ll be the one in the room screaming the loudest for Poh!”

TASTE OF SUCCESS
STREAMING MOVING ON
TOO MUCH
Streaming from Thursday, Netflix
Multi-hyphenate talent Lena Dunham is back in the TV showrunning game with this 10-episode, rough-around-the-edges rom-com that Girls fans are going to go wild for.
Hacks’ Megan Stalter is perfectly cast as Jessica, a Dunham-esque thirtysomething New Yorker who decides that moving to London is the best way to deal with her pain after a seven-year long relationship ends.
“When I first started coming to the UK for work… I thought to myself, ‘I want to write something about the experience of being a foreigner here, and the fantasies we have of [London] vs the realities,’” says Dunham.
Jess’s experience of life in the British capital does not match up to the daydream – less country estate grounds and verdant gardens, more dingy council flat and loud, sweary neighbours – but soon, a bright spark appears in the darkness in the form of Felix (Will Sharpe, The White Lotus). An indie musician who sleeps until noon, Felix is giving off red flags galore, but there’s something about the way these two connect, and this unexpected match might be just what each of them needs.
The stacked ensemble cast features Girls alumni Rita Wilson, Andrew Rannells and Dunham herself, as well as big names including Naomi Watts, Richard E. Grant and Emily Ratajkowski – and more in cameo roles.
Far from being “too much”, this delightful love story is just right. – Emily Delahunt

DEXTER: RESURRECTION
Streaming from Friday, Paramount+
He’s back! Not even a bullet to the chest could keep everyone’s favourite avenging serial killer down for long. Now, Dexter (Michael C. Hall, pictured) is headed for New York City – a great place to hide in plain sight, and where he believes his son Harrison (Jack Alcott) has fled. It’s not long before Dexter is drawn back to the darkness of his past – and this time he’s not the only one dealing with demons.

LAW & ORDER: SVU
10, Thursday, 8.30pm
Things have been getting a tad stale at the Special Victims Unit lately (which is only natural a couple of decades in), but this episode marks an uptick in watchability for Detective Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and co. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Donna Lynne Champlin was an excellent choice to play tonight’s victim, Megan – a tourist from the Midwest who was living it up in New York City until a vicious attack in Times Square. The SVU team gets to work looking for clues, but Megan is not in a good place mentally and doesn’t want to wait for them to find the answers, so she goes a little bit rogue – which of course doesn’t work out all that well. It’s a welcome return to form for this TV stalwart.

THE CROW GIRL Seven, Sunday, 9.20pm
Based on the Scandinavian novel by Erik Axl Sund, this dark thriller flips the usual Jane Doe script on its head and instead follows the efforts to catch a serial killer brazenly leaving the bodies of young men in bags all over Bristol. DCI Jeanette Kilburn (Eve Myles, Broadchurch) links up with Sophia Craven (Katherine Kelly, pictured), a psychotherapist whose speciality is counselling criminals, to solve the case. As they dig deeper, the unlikely duo begin to uncover a trail that leads to overlooked missing children’s cases tracing back decades.
MASTERCHEF AUSTRALIA
10, Monday, 7.30pm
Eliminations never get any easier, but now that we’re in the pointy end of the competition, even one chef’s absence is sorely felt in the MasterChef kitchen. Hopefully, Monday’s mystery box cookoff can distract from Sunday’s bittersweet farewell. However, any vampires in the viewership might want to give this one a miss: it’s a garlicky challenge so aromatic you’ll swear you can smell fumes wafting from the TV. But wait, there’s more – halfway through the contestants’ allotted 75 minutes, there’s a second mystery box to open. With the top three dishes landing their makers directly in tomorrow’s pressure test where a place in the top six awaits, it’s going to be a “clove” call for judges JeanChristophe Novelli, Sofia Levin, Poh Ling Yeow and Andy Allen (pictured, from left).

SICKNESS: Generally, dogs with kennel cough will recover in two to three weeks - but treatment may be required in some cases.
KENNEL COUGH
By OVENS AND KIEWA VETERINARY HOSPITAL
Kennel cough is a relatively common cause of coughing in dogs, particularly those with a history of frequent socialisation or close contact with other dogs; for example, in kennels, dog parks, or training classes.
It is most commonly caused by a combination of viruses and bacteria, with the primary culprits being the parainfluenza virus and Bordetella bronchiseptica.
Kennel cough is a highly infectious airborne disease, but it is not transmissible to humans.
Clinical signs often include a strong, honking cough that may sound like a goose honk.
Some dogs may also retch as if they are about to vomit and may produce a small amount of foamy liquid.
Additional symptoms can include lethargy, reduced appetite, sneezing, and a runny nose.
Although the cough can sound alarming,
kennel cough is often a self-limiting illness. Most dogs recover within two to three weeks without the need for treatment.
In some cases, a secondary bacterial infection may develop, in which case antibiotics might be necessary. However, antibiotics are not routinely required and are not recommended in all cases.
Cough suppressants may occasionally be prescribed to ease symptoms.
A vaccine is available for kennel cough and is typically included as part of a dog’s annual vaccination schedule (commonly the C5 vaccine).
While the vaccine does not guarantee complete protection, it significantly reduces the risk of infection and can lessen the severity of symptoms if a dog does contract the illness.
As always, if you are concerned about your dog coughing or behaving unusually, it is advisable to consult a veterinarian.
There are many possible causes of coughing in dogs, so when in doubt, it’s best to have them examined by a professional.

Event Molly’s Song
By MICHELLE AZARIS TIMELESS SUPPORT
Timeless Support is honoured to sponsor Molly’s Song, a heartfelt community event taking place on Sunday, 13 July 2025, at the historic Hotel Nicholas on Camp Street, Beechworth.
This special gathering is a tribute to the late Molly, who sadly passed away from Alzheimer’s disease.
In her memory, Molly’s family hosts annual fundraising events to support vital dementia research, bringing awareness, hope, and community spirit to regional Victoria.
This year’s event features an uplifting performance by the Molly’s Song Pub Choir, led by the beloved soprano Colleen Arnott, with musical accompaniment by pianist Sandra Williams.
The afternoon will be crowned by a special performance from Damian Leith, winner of Australian Idol and a long-time supporter of health and community initiatives.
At Timeless Support, we understand the
emotional toll that dementia can take on individuals and their families.
As a dedicated provider of in-home care services across North East Victoria, including dementia care, we see first-hand the importance of continued research and awareness.
Supporting Molly’s Song reflects our ongoing commitment to compassion, dignity, and community connection.
“We are proud to walk alongside Molly’s family in their mission to honour her legacy and help others affected by dementia,” said a spokesperson from Timeless Support.
“Events like this remind us of the power of music, memory, and togetherness.”
Funds raised from the afternoon will go directly to organisations funding dementia research, offering hope for improved treatments, and ultimately, a cure.
Tickets are limited and expected to sell quickly.
For more information or to donate, visit Molly’s Song Facebook page or text Libby Day on 0418 409 636.

SNOW HOLIDAY FUN
By JEFF ZEUSCHNER
School holidays are in full swing, bringing an influx and families to our alpine resorts to enjoy fun in the snow.
What’s more, the forecast of up to 55cms of fresh snow this week couldn’t be timed better.
Both Mt Hotham and Falls Creek alpine resorts have continued to enjoy some of their best conditions in years over the past week, with the season’s two big dumps of snow in June - and consistent snow making and grooming - helping ensure a snow depth of more than 50cms.
Betony Pitcher, Falls Creek’s field marketing manager, said there’s plenty of terrain open and good snow coverage on the resort’s runs.
“Everyone will love the fireworks, night ski and boarding, family après and loads of great activities in our junior workshop and kids lessons out on the slopes,” she said.
Falls Creek started this week with an average snow depth of 51cms and all of its 15 lifts - except International, Lakeside and Summit - are operating to service superb
terrain suitable for beginner, intermediate and expert skiers and boarders.
Cross country skiers had excellent to fair conditions on 20kms of groomed trails.
Hotham on Monday this week had an average snow depth of 55cms, with 10 of its 14 lifts operating, 45 of its 105 trails and one of its two terrain parks opened, and offered good cross country skiing.
Dinner Plain visitors have been enjoying skiing and boarding on the Cobungra Platter ski slope which is perfect for beginners, as well as tobogganing on Australia’s longest run, and cross country skiing on local trails.
At Mt Buffalo on Monday this week there was fair to good tobogganing on thinning snow at Dingo Dell and Cresta Valley, with fair cross country skiing on groomed trails and good conditions in the back country.
Remember you must carry chains when visiting the alpine resorts and fit them when and where directed.
