THE sun shone brightly as motor bikes rumbled into Beechworth on Sunday for this year’s annual ‘Blanket and Jacket Run’. Organisers of the event Yackandandah’s Trevor Botting and Kurt Dissegna from Bright began the run nine years ago, which offers the donations to the local Salvation Army. Motor bike riders from around the North East have joined in since then

to support the cause in helping people in need to keep snug and warm throughout chilly winters. Salvation Army major Pauline Middleton said 50 motorbikes rolled into town with four ute loads filled to the brim with warm clothing and blankets.

“This has been amazing and will enable us to spread this help to many people and other groups,” she said. “Blankets, coats and clothing will be well appreciated by people.” Major Middleton said a number of volunteers had been busy sorting and distributing the blankets, coats and other clothing this week. She said more than $1000 had been raised in cash on the run, with $200

donated by the Happy Valley Hotel in Ovens. “Money collected will be added to our annual Red Shield Appeal for this year,” she said. “Since the COVID days, we have been able to use the money collected for Beechworth Salvos to put back into the local economy via vouchers for firewood, fuel and other household accounts.” Major Middleton said the Salvation Army Beechworth

Corps is grateful for the continued support of riders on the run over the last nine years. The run started this year at the Oven’s Happy Valley Inn and went through Tarrawingee, Springhurst, Rutherglen, Chiltern and then to Beechworth. “We try and change the run a little every year,” Trevor said. Next year marks the motor bike run’s 10th anniversary.
