that we continue to listen to our community and respond appropriately.

“I have five generations of my family that live across different parts of Indigo shire, and I want fantastic

Having been elected as deputy mayor to serve a two-year stint only last year, Cr Peter Croucher showed his support for Cr Gaffney to take on the role, a motion which was carried 6-1 with the only opposition raised by Cr Larry Goldsworthy.

Hawkins calls for childcare action INDEPENDENT Benambra canidate Jacqui Hawkins has expressed her disappointment, after the region missed out as part of a Labor election commitment to build 50-new governmentowned childcare centres across the state.

Ms Hawkins said the omission of Benambra communities was further evidence that the major parties

were overlooking what they considered a safe seat.

“When it comes to early childhood education, we can’t afford to be ignored the lack of accessible early childhood education is costing local families and it’s impacting every part of our economy through staff shortages,” she said.

“Local families are struggling with the cost of living,

carers are unable to return to work because they find it so hard to get their children into early childhood education in their local areas, early childhood educators are under-valued and underpaid - it’s a perfect storm for our local economies.

“This is a sector that is in desperate need of investment and I’m committed to fighting to ensure local

families and their children receive the education and care that they need in their own communities, without the stress of having to wait for years to find a place.”

Ms Hawkins said if elected to the Victorian parliament, she would be fighting to ensure the government invested in new early childhood education facilities across Benambra.

“Early childhood education is so central to the prosperity of our communities in so many ways - it not only sets our children up for good overall wellbeing, but it enables primary care-givers, most of whom are women, to participate fully in our workforce,” Ms Hawkins said.

“It’s time that the major parties invested in elector-

ates based on need, rather than the potential for political gain.

“As as Independent, I will be unwavering in fighting for the major parties to take our community’s needs seriously.

LICENCE CHANGE: Benambra MP Bill Tilley believes a review of the state’s probationary licensing laws would allow more young people to easily access school and work.

Tilley touts licence change AN elected Coalition government would review probationary driver laws to allow 17-year-olds to travel to work and school, in line with similar rules throughout the nation, according to Benambra MP Bill Tilley.

Victoria remains the only state or territory which requires probationary licence holders to be over the age of 18, however, Mr Tilley said despite the difference in age requirements, road incident data didn’t indicate Victorian drivers were safer than in other states.

He said the constraints placed on young people, particularly in regional areas along the border, resulted in confusing and conflicting road rules while nearby family and friends in New South Wales followed a different set of rules.

“This was put to the parliament several years ago after a committee did all the hard work to show that it was feasible and safe and it was rejected by Labor in five minutes,” he said.

“The rejection was based on studies

done more than 30 years ago, long before graduated licences and decades before safety improvements to modern cars.

“None of the stats from other states suggest there is any greater risk to first year drivers, whether they be 17 or 18, and a study just this year found that regional kids were disadvantaged in work, study and social activities by the 18-year-old age limit.”

According to Mr Tilley, the need to travel long distances, particularly in regional areas where public transport is limited, was a key consideration.

According to Liberal leader Matt Guy, the plan would get more young people into work.

“We trust young Victorians to make the right decisions on the road,” he said.

“This simple, common sense change will mean Victorians are no longer at a disadvantage to other states, and bring us in line with the rest of the country.”

Festival set to return Drag queen showcase promotes inclusivity in North East

By CORAL COOKSLEY BEECHWORTH pumped as the host of the first-time Drag’d Out Festival at the weekend, as top Australian drag artists drew a crowd of more than 2,000 people from near and far.

A roaring success with strong community support, organisers - creative director Andrew Madden and Scott Daintry from the Empire Hotel - announced the festival would be back next year.

With the festival a celebration of the art of drag to entertain, Scott said the organising team had been completely blown away with its success.

Among drag artists were legendary performer Vonni, Philmah Bocks, Art Simone, Jojo Zaho, Hara Papoulias, Pashion Couture, Jemma Handful and Freddie Merkin with special guests Polly Filla, Cindy Pastel, Vanessa Wagner, Portia Turbo and local performer Eden Cox. While ticketed events among them the matinee session and ‘dining with the divas’ sold out, festival goers enjoyed the many free events with drag performances and fun activities such as prizes for best dressed locals for both adults and kids and the dog lookalike competition over the three-day event.

The festival kicked off last Friday afternoon, as a crowd gathered to dance at the street party to music and drag performances on stage in Camp Street.

The magic vibe with glitz, glam, sparkle and humour set the fun scene for the rest of the weekend.

Local drag queen, event committee member, stage manager and festival ‘glambassador’ Sarah Belle was struck by the town’s wonderful response.

“To have this in our local town is just amazing and everyone loved it,” Sarah Belle said.

Melbourne-based drag ‘king’ of queens Freddie Merkin said the festival gave local young people and older generations the chance to see performances they may have never seen before.

Freddie said no matter how people identified, everyone could be accepted and embraced.

“The people here are divine, the township has just jumped on board one hundred per cent, where shop owners and businesses have sponsored (the event), and the open arms have just been so heart-warming.”

The fair on Sunday moved from the police paddocks to the memorial hall due to morning rain, where shows including the grand finale were packed out.

Scott said among special moments throughout the festival had been the Q&A session where people had the chance to chat to drag queens at the Quercus Oregon Hall.

Beechworth’s Anna Novak said the festival had been great for kids to see diversity and acceptance.

“It was fun, colourful and having a live performance after things have been quiet from COVID for a long time, my children had a wonderful time,” she said.

“It’s been great to bring people into the town again, and with an opportunity to get dressed up for endless reasons.

“We saw fire twirling on Friday night which was great for the children and for us too.”

For Beechworth’s Amber Vincent, the festival had been incredible, fun, creative and inclusive.

“It’s fabulous having this kind of event in Beechworth and very different from what we’ve had in the past,” she said.

“It’s given the town an excuse to have fun, laugh and party after two difficult years of COVID,” she said.

“It’s great to have a festival that is about celebration, music and being yourself.”

The event had a special significance for Kristy, as her son (Sean McMahon) debuted in drag as Eden Cox. “He was so embraced and celebrated by his community,” she said.

“It was wonderful to see him fangirled by his peers, people who have known him all his life and young kids queer and straight.

“Everyone has embraced his drag and queerness and that is so important in a small country town.

“Drag’d Out has made it okay to be different and celebrated that difference in a fabulous, fun way that makes you just want to enjoy life.”

Stanley’s Danielle Bell loved the festival being inclusive of all people and accessible for all ages.

“My kids and I attended the family events and had so much fun,” she said.

“While the costumes, colour, beauty and joy were totally infectious, it sparked curiosity in my children’s minds that led to really powerful conversations about diversity and different ways of expressing ourselves.

“I think it was important for our community, not just for LGBQTIA+ community but for everyone to experiences a sense of inclusivity and connection.

“The strong level of local support was a testimony to our commitment to embracing all people.

“The whole town felt alive with a feeling of love and celebration that has stayed with us all week.”

Disadvantaged people and workers who live and want to stay in regional towns should not be subject to the rising price of housing created by foreign online holiday brokerage services.

Housing needs to include more efficient construction methods and innovative solutions, such as tiny houses and prefabricated buildings, that already exist and could be deployed at scale.

Village-style housing plans for seasonal workers would provide such a model.

$16,000 boost for railway station

By CORAL COOKSLEY BEECHWORTH Railway Station is set to have more comfortable meeting spaces with improvements soon-tobe undertaken at the premises.

University of the Third Age U3A has come up trumps with more than $16,000 from the State Government’s Living Local Regional Fund program received last month to support the project.

Funds will help boost usability of the building’s spaces as well as energy efficiency.

President Rosemary Ryan said an additional three reverse cycle air conditioners will be installed in the premises to unheated rooms.

Modifications will also be made to close entries with double doors to two rooms.

Ms Ryan said since U3A took over the building lease earlier this year, the group had expanded course and activity offerings to members.

“We have been able to offer space for hire to other community groups and businesses as well,” she said.

More than 12 community groups have used building spaces since U3A took up the lease.

The U3A president said several groups had to be turned away in winter due to inadequate heating that can now be fixed before next year’s winter season.

“We didn’t have enough room to run all our programs for the same reason and will be able to offer a lot more now too,” Ms Ryan said.

“U3A is always in search of grants for ongoing improvements.”

Worms catching redfin at lake Hume, yellowbelly at lake Nillahcootie GONE FISHING

By ROBBIE ALEXANDER AFTER yet more rain over the weekend, keeping local rivers and streams running fast and many in flood, it looks like our fishing is still restricted to lakes.

That’s not entirely a bad thing though as many of the region’s lakes are currently fishing very well.

I fished Lake Hume at sunrise last Tuesday morning.

The fishing was quite incredible.

The bites were so constant that the morning became very unrelaxing.

It’s not often that I complain that the fishing is unre-

laxing because I was getting too many bites!

Using worms as bait I managed to catch approximately 20 to 30 redfin in a two hour session just sitting on the bank at an area that locals refer to as ‘The Pines’.

The official name of that reserve is Apex Park and it is situated just a few hundred metres before the iconic Bethanga Bridge.

Of the fish that I caught seven to eight were big enough to keep, but certainly not trophy size.

I also managed to catch a few carp in amongst the chaos.

After three hours of nonstop fishing I put my gear away and decided to fish for a while with soft plastics, and in only 45 minutes I managed to catch.... nothing!

The action was all on worms.

I spoke to my friend Ross from Fishtalk Video on YouTube who fishes the lake regularly and he experienced the exact same phenomena at Huon Reserve.

Heaps of fish on worms, but absolutely nothing on lures, not even a follow.

Lake Nillahcootie continues to be a standout yellowbelly fishery this week with many anglers catching good numbers of yellowbelly with a few carp and Murray cod mixed in.

As with Lake Hume, the vast majority of fish being caught at Lake Nillahcootie have been caught on worms.

While a boat is handy, it is certainly not required with many fish being caught from the bank near the boat ramp.

Local CWA celebrates 80th anniversary

By CORAL COOKSLEY BEECHWORTH Country Women’s Association (CWA) celebrated eight decades of contributing to the community this year with a celebration held at the senior citizens hall last Friday.

A local branch past president and past minute secretary Pam Turnbull delivered interesting history snippets from the Ovens and Murray Advertiser, reported in the lead up to the branch being formed on May 23, 1942, with the first meeting held on June 5 of that year.

Pam said CWA brought women together for friendship as well as supporting each other.

“It doesn’t matter what situation it is, be it in good or bad times, we lift each other up and look after each other” she said.

“It’s about women supporting other women and the family as well.”

Outgoing president Tess Lucas said it had been fabulous that the local branch had kept going over the years, especially in a town such as Beechworth where there were so many other clubs or organisations to join.

Among guests who travelled from around the region were Victoria CWA North East group past presidents Gail Robertson, Wilma Bright, 92-year-old Joyce McDonald and this year’s group president, Paula McGavin.

Others included local probus, Red Cross, and Rotary representatives.

Life member Beryl Pope cut the special cake, followed by Tangambalanga’s Peter Croucher, who played his accordion and led the

happy group in singing much-loved old-time favourites of the 40s era.

Members and guests were also treated to a fun lesson of ringing bells by Mr Croucher to the show tune of ‘Edelweiss’ from the 1959 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music.

Presentations to members with CWA Victoria certificates for dedicated service awarded at the event included Tess Lucas (30 years), Beryl Pope (20 years) and Karen Nankervis and Gail Walsh both for 10 years.

Funds have been raised

by Beechworth CWA over the years from holding hundreds of stalls at events with crafted goods and produce sold, with money then invested back into the community for numerous projects.

Tess said this year three local families in need had been supported, while school grants were likely to kick off again in the near future.

Local schools had been supported for more than two decades until fundraising activities were curtailed by COVID impacts for the last three years.

Tess said the local group also donated to statewide projects to support recovery from natural disasters such as floods and bushfires.

With CWA Victoria founded in 1928, local Beechworth members are part of a more than 5000-strong state membership.

A philanthropic organisation of women working for the welfare of women and children through representation to all levels of government, the CWA also provides networking opportunities and teaches life skills.

Quercus Beechworth manager Paivi Watson said the idea for the purchase of a bell tent provided an additional community space.

“It’s just trying to be a little bit innovative about outside spaces we can use instead of always being in the community garden too,” she said.

Paivi said the tent can be used in many ways, among them as a chill out zone for

people visiting the Quercus bookshop, for kids after school or for even for small meetings.

“Local youth are welcome to use a tent and hang out in there as well,” she said.

Paivi said the tent is taken to community events where a chill out zone is set up for kids, with activities and bean bags tossed in as well.

“We already started doing kids’ chill out zones at events last summer such as ‘Spring Ditch’ held in Stanley and now we have a proper tent for the purpose,” she said.

“It’s a little extra asset that we can use when needed and can be used for our meeting

Food choice key for future

By PETER KENYON WE live in a highly regulated society.

Most of it is invisible and most people accept the rules - biosecurity, road rules, fuel standards, smoking restrictions, electrical and building standards, restrictions on the sale of fireworks, gun control, food safety, packaging and labelling standards and so on.

Reflecting a vast framework of safety, security and health considerations, rules and regulations prevent scalding, falls, shootings, electrocution, explosions, collapsing buildings, eradicable diseases, poisonings, the exploitation of children, road trauma, injuries, death and other negative, entirely foreseeable outcomes.

There’s a well-known allegory in public health about ambulances and fences.

It describes a popular but dangerous lookout at the top of a rocky cliff and the frequent occurrence of people falling over the edge.

All these accidents cause injury and require ambulances to cart victims off to hospital, day after day.

Wouldn’t it be better to erect a fence at the top of the cliff and so prevent accidents, say some at the local council.

Others shout them down noting the thrill of peering into the precipice and the need to demonstrate “individual

responsibility”.

Nanny-statism, they accuse.

Put up more signs!

And if education and responsibility don’t work, well then, we may need to spend more on ambulances and hospitals.

In her recent ABC program, Magda’s Big National Health Check, Magda Szubanski notes that if half or more off a school’s pupils were failing each year, we wouldn’t blame the students, we’d start asking what’s wrong with the school.

Yet in public health, and particularly around food, politicians - and many others - continue to blame individuals rather than explore the systemic issues delivering enormous and unacceptable consequences.

What does individual responsibility mean when the status quo delivers failure on such a grand scale?

At the top of the cliff, now we can hardly see the view for the signs.

Even so, ambulances are needed to cart the injured away and hospitals buckle under the pressure.

Yet many still recoil from even considering fences.

Food is the ultimate deliverer of health and wellbeing, yet nationally we have not even asked what it is we want our food system to deliver.

If we accept that fences are integral, yet largely invisible aspects to the safe and healthy lives we want for ourselves and our loved ones, we might even all agree on a few more.

When society’s health comes down to a choice between Colonel Sanders, Ronald McDonald or an experienced nanny with her wisdom and guidance, I know who I’d prefer.

Marathon walker makes way through Beechworth MARATHON walker Dr Prabodh Malhotra passed through Beechworth yesterday during his 1000km walk to Sydney, raising funds and awareness for breast cancer.

At the age of 71, retiree Dr Malhotra is walking from the MCG to the SCG to raise money for the McGrath Foundation.

Dr Malhotra was on his way to Everton from Wangaratta on Wednesday and planned to continue on to Yackandandah today.

He said he has been averaging around 43,000 steps per day, starting off in the early morning and aiming to finish in the early afternoons, which he will continue do for the next 39 days.

“I’m fundraising to help make the lives of families experiencing breast cancer that little bit easier,” he said.

“Among others, my inspiration comes from the French author Stephen Grellet who said, ‘I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow-creature, let me do it now, let me not defer or neglect it’.

“As a 71-year-old retiree, this may be my last chance to make a small contribution for a noble cause.”

While coming across obstacles such as finding places to shower, park his van overnight and blisters, Dr Malhotra has

$45m road repair plan to commence in North East MILLIONS of dollars of repairs to North East roads damaged by flooding events is set to commence in the coming weeks, as Regional Roads Victoria (RRV) enters the next phase of its flood recovery program.

More than half of the state’s $89.8m statewide program will be funneled into the Hume Region, with $45m to be set aside for major works on the Hume and Goulburn Valley freeways, as well as the Midland, Melba and Murray Valley highways.

Some $8.6m worth of work is set to be completed along the Hume Freeway, with a particular focus on areas near Euroa, Violet Town, Avenel, Benalla and Wodonga, while $2m will be dedicated to works along Beechworth-Wodonga Road.

The Great Alpine Road at Tarrawingee, Wangaratta, East Wangaratta and Smoko will also undergo repairs under the initiative, as part of efforts to repair the region’s busiest and most important freight and travel routes, according to RRV regional director (Hume), Steve Bowmaker.

“Our immediate response has focused on delivering short-term emergency repairs to get roads re-opened as soon as possible - now we’re turning our attention towards the first stage of longer-term, larger-scale repairs,” he said.

“Anyone who’s seen the damage inflicted on our roads first-hand knows that we have a lengthy recovery program ahead of us, and this is just the first step in that process.

“This first package of works is about repairing those roads that are unsafe in the wake of floods and keeping communities connected to vital supplies and services.”

Repair works will include rebuilding and rehabilitation works, asphalt patching, structural repairs, clearing and fixing damaged roadside drains and culverts, stabilizing landslips and clearing roadside debris.

Since October 13, more than 500 workers across the state have patched just shy of 80,000 potholes.

Region warned amid UV risk HEAVY rain and consistent flooding has done little to dampen the North East’s ultraviolet radiation (UV) risk, which has consistently remained between high and very high each day since the start of November.

According to results from the 2019 Summer Sun Protection Survey, a little more than three in five respondents used weather forecasts to guide whether they need sun protection for the day, with temperature being the largest contributing factor.

Data from the Australian Radiation and Nuclear Protection Safety Agency recently highlighted UV levels have hovered between ‘high’ and ‘very high’ between 10am and 3.30pm consistently since the start of the month.

According to Cancer Council Victoria’s head of SunSmart, Emma Glassenbury, it was vital Victorians took measures to protect their skin whenever UV levels are three or above to reduce their skin cancer risk.

“It would be easy for Victorians to forget the importance of sun protection during the cooler weather, however, the high UV levels are the un-

seen danger when people get skin damage, significantly increasing their risk of developing skin cancer,” she said.

“Using sun protection cuts people’s risk of developing skin cancer at any age so it is important for everyone to know when the UV levels are three or higher and they remember to slip, slop, slap, seek and slide.”

In Victoria in 2020, there were 2582 newly diagnosed cases of melanoma and 271 deaths.

Residents are encouraged to slip on clothing that covers as much skin as possible, slop on SPF30 or higher sunscreen, slap on a broad-brimmed hat, seek shade and slide on sunglasses if outside on a day with a UV index of at least three.

UV cannot be seen or felt, meaning Victorians often won’t know their skin has been damaged until it is too late.

“In the morning when you go to check the weather, make sure you check your local UV levels including sun protection times, you can also find this information on the Bureau of Meteorology’s website and our free SunSmart app,” Ms Glassenbury said.

ROAD TO RECOVERY: Beechworth’s John Stone thinks a community fundraiser would help people restore the flood damaged Chinese Gardens and around Spring Creek near the caravan park.

Celebrating a love of local history JOHN Stone was born, bred and schooled in Beechworth. He was born at the former Ovens District Hospital 72 years ago and has lived in the town all his life.

What is your job?

I’ve been retired for some time but had many varied and different jobs with my main one being a truck driver which is something I always wanted to do.

What brought you to that role?

It was my dream job as a kid to be a truck driver and I never really thought about following any other career.

What did you love about your job?

Meeting people and going to new places every day that included travelling interstate.

I just loved being on the road. It was great to be able to refresh at service stations when pulling up for fuel where truckies could have a shower and then have a sit-down meal before getting on the road again.

What did you do in the community?

I spent a lot of time travelling for much of my working life, but I did get involved as a volunteer on and off throughout my working life with the local rural fire brigade. I learnt a lot in the brigade - volunteering there gave me new skills and I also made many good friends.

It was also a way of helping and protecting the community too.

What is the most important current community issue for you?

The floods that devastated the Lake Sambell Caravan Park when the banks of Silver Creek broke and flooded the park and submerged the Chinese Gardens. So much work has been done to improve the Chinese Gardens over the years to beautify the area.

What would you do to solve, change or

I would like to see the town get together with some fundraisers such as a town barbeque to help people restore around Silver Creek and the Chinese Gardens.

What is the most important current world issue for you?

The war in Ukraine. I wish the conflict was already resolved. I feel very sorry for the Ukrainians who have suffered so much.

If the person you would most like to meet came to Indigo, or was already here, who would that be and what would you show them?

The United States president Joe Biden and I would show him the cannons in Queen Victoria Park sitting on top of the granite rock, and the Burke Museum.

Why would you show him that?

I love history. The park site, which was reserved in 1858, has exotic trees that were planted in 1861 and a granite outcrop that is quite a feature, with two cannons sitting on top that date back to the First World War. I think president Biden would be interested in hearing about Beechworth’s history as we walked through the park and chatted about resolutions to the Ukrainian conflict on the way to the Burke Museum. The museum is a fascinating and interesting place full of local history.

Twilight golfers turn out

By DYLAN POOL LAST Thursday 13 golfers turned up for twilight golf, with a cross-country style nine holes played due to there only being around three holes which weren’t sodden.

The winners of the night were Mark Tay-

lor, Rod Shaw and Brian Cropley with 34/6.9/27.1, while runners up were Jamie Dolny, Steve Piddington and Dave Atkins with 32/4.8/27.2.

Dylan Pool claimed the Beechworth Bakery voucher with nearest the pin on the 10th, Jason West claimed the cash for

the nearest chip on the 9th and Jamie Dolny won the raffle.

Twilight golf will again be on this Thursday at 4:30 for a 5pm hit off.

On Sunday two teams of three headed up to Yackandandah for their annual cops and robbers golf day.

Dylan Pool, Jacob Howard and John Sherritt had a day out, having a fantastic score of 10 under off the stick and won the overall event by three and a half shots.

Yogi (Howard) had his par three game on point, claiming two of the four nearest the pins.

Andy Croome, Rod Shaw and Daryl Rowe weren’t far off featuring in the prize winners themselves.

Don’t forget golf this Sunday at 12:30 for a 1pm hit off.

From back page After the drinks break and some words of wisdom from his father, Tim showed a lot of intent to lift the run rate from the get-go, as he hit the first ball he faced for two runs to the loud cheers of the crowd.

Unfortunately Tim came unstuck toeing one to square leg.

This Brought Numan De Silva to the crease who, along with Darren Cogger, lifted the run rate as the game was starting to get away from the Colts.

As Darren brought up his 50, the Colts heads had dropped.

Darren’s innings wasn’t without a couple strokes of luck as the wicket-keeper grassed a difficult chance and he skied one that fell just behind the keeper.

Boundaries were flowing and the job was done as Numan had his castle rattled for a well made 19 with the required score just being passed.

There were still three overs to bat so Rama Schulz joined Darren as a spectator up the other end, with Cogger within striking distance of his maiden ton, which he brought up with a single in the last over to the cheers of the crowd.

Well batted Coggs you have joined an elite club of players who have tonned up at Mayday.

At the end of the innings the final score was 3/146.

A fantastic effort by the B graders after being skittled for only 34 last week.

This Saturday the B grade faces the tough task of taking on the strong Yarrawonga-Mulwala at Mulwala.

Mayday masterclass

By DYLAN POOL AN unbeaten century by Beechworth’s Darren Cogger has seen the Wanderers’ B grade side home in a closelyfought bout at Mayday Hills, while rain prevented play for the A grade side at Baarmutha Park.

The game was delayed by around half an hour due to the wet conditions, but as there was no umpire the captains decided it was safe

Beechworth won the toss and sent City Colts in on what was probably a bit of a slippery deck.

The first wicket didn’t take long to fall as Tim Cogger produced a peach of a delivery to remove the Colts opener with the score only on 8, while Darren Cogger bowled tidily at the other end.

It was when a change of bowling occurred that the next wicket fell as the ever improving Bayden Mom had the other opener trapped LBW. Numan De Silva was giving the opposition all sorts of headaches with his spinners but couldn’t snatch a wicket.

Ted Ritchie bowled beautifully in what was only his

second ever game of senior cricket and beat the bat numerous times but couldn’t find that edge.

It was when Rama Shultz came on that things swung back into the home side’s favour as he claimed three wickets in his four overs which, along with his two catches off Darren Cogger’s bowling, left the Colts on the ropes.

A run out from Archer Warner saw the Colts in trouble at 7/71, however, two solid partnerships saw the visitors to 9/118 off their 35 overs.

When it was our turn to bat it was Tim Cogger and Bayden Mom who had been promoted up the order to open.

Mom unfortunately was trapped in front in just the

second over of the game.

This brought Darren Cogger out to the crease to bat with his son.

With Tim’s very cautious approach and Darren punishing anything short of a length to the boundary, the duo saw the side to drinks at 1/45, with Darren (38*) and Tim on just the solitary single run.
