Big dollars raised for annual RCH Good Friday Appeal

By CORAL COOKSLEY A WHOPPING $18,240 has been collected for this year’s annual Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal by the local Country Fire Authority (CFA) volunteers.

Local communities chipped in with CFA volunteers from Beechworth, Wooragee and Stanley units rattling tins in their areas on Good Friday.

Coordinator for the day, CFA Beechworth urban fire brigade captain Tracy McVea, said the total included mon-

ey raised over the past 12 months.

“Some businesses in Beechworth had purple Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal collection containers on their counters,” she said.

Captain McVea said the appeal is very close to the hearts of many people in Beechworth and surrounds.

“Many of us have had a family member or know of someone who has been treated at the hospital,” she said.

“With the amount raised, it shows what a caring commu-

more than $35 million raised to help the hospital deliver world-class care to sick kids.

Contact tracing changes in effect tonight SWEEPING changes to the state’s COVID-19 restrictions set to come into effect from 11:59pm tonight will see contact tracing efforts across Victoria largely abolished.

The government announcement on Wednesday morning pointed to a 70 per cent third vaccination rate among Victorian adults as the catalyst for the changes.

Under the new changes to the state’s pandemic orders, patrons will no longer be required to show their vaccination status before

entering venues, with a double vaccination requirement no longer imposed.

Close contacts will no longer be required to complete a seven day period of self-isolation, provided they wear a mask indoors, avoid sensitive settings and undertake at least five negative rapid tests over the seven day period.

Staff and patrons will no longer be expected to check-in using the Service Victoria app, and operators will no longer keep attendance records or maintain a check-in marshal, while

masks will only be required in hospitals and aged care settings.

All other visitor restrictions on hospitals will be removed, allowing health services to develop their own settings, while individuals who test positive for COVID-19 will be exempt from testing or quarantine for 12 weeks, up from eight under previous restrictions.

Those who test positive for COVID will still be required to isolate for seven days, while visitor restrictions in care facilities will remain in place.

A SCHOOL-aged boy who was severely burned during a Beechworth house fire was airlifted to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition this week.

An Old Chiltern Road address became fully involved in flames early on Tuesday morning after a fire began in a back room of the property before quickly spreading through the ceiling.

A CFA spokesperson said an investigation into the cause of the fire was ongoing.

Some nine CFA tankers arrived on scene shortly after 1:20am, quickly moving through the house to ensure all occupants had escaped the blaze.

Beechworth Urban Fire Brigade captain Tracy McVea said crews from Beechworth, Everton, Wooragee, Stanley and Chiltern had worked quickly to douse the blaze.

“The crews did an amazing job - they did everything they were meant to do,” she said.

“We probably had it under control within an hour but there was a lot of work to continue doing.

“There’s a lot of smoke and water damage to the house.”

According to Ms McVea, the occupants of the home had escaped after they were awoken by a working smoke alarm.

“It’s a timely reminder to change the batteries in your smoke alarm or, if the alarm is more than 10 years old, change the smoke alarm altogether,” she said.

“It’s a horrible thing to have happened but if the family hadn’t had the smoke alarm it could have been much worse.”

Harry’s War: From Chiltern Valley to France The storyy of a local Australian soldier’s service during g World War One

By CORAL COOKSLEY A FAMILY treasure trove of letters discovered about a local Chiltern Valley WW1 soldier have become the basis of a book that will be launched at Historic Chiltern Courthouse on Anzac Day at 1.30pm.

Letters had been inherited by Glen Reiss and his sisters from their mother Beverly Reiss a niece of 6426 PTE Harry Withers in the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) written by Harry to his family who lived in the Chiltern Valley.

“They were simple honest letters, talking about training, fighting and leave time in England, France and Scotland,” Mr Reiss said.

With diary notes from a returned field notebook as well, Mr Reiss said author Max Carmichael has blended historical information, including observations from the war diaries of Units Harry served in, with Harry’s own words in the book ‘Harry’s War: From Chiltern Valley to France, the story of a local Australian soldier’s service during World War One. “It brings facets of Harry’s early life and war service together,” he said.

“Growing up at Ullina Station in the Chiltern Valley, Harry had volunteered for service in October 1916.

“Serving in France, Harry saw service with the 24th Battalion (infantry), was detached to sup-

“We have about 40 soldiers coming from Bandiana Barracks to march and they’re bringing down one of the army vehicles as well so it will be a fairly big march,” he said.

Yackandandah’s RSL event organiser for Anzac Day Wal Cameron said the town’s dawn service starts at 5.45am followed by a gunfire breakfast at the bottom hotel with a gold coin donation.

Mr Cameron said the march begins at the bottom hotel at 9.30am and ends at the Memorial Gardens where the 10am service will be held.

“There will then be a morning tea at the Senior Citizen’s Hall,” he said.

“The MC for the day is Osborne Flat’s Lincoln Ablett.”

Coalition plans to make NBN speeds, mobile coverage better

By CORAL COOKSLEY IN a book presentation to Rutherglen RSL members on Wednesday this week a slice of World War II history about a chaplain born in Rutherglen was handed over by Beechworth’s John Baines.

Mr Baines, a retired armoured corps major, had tirelessly edited and published a series of interviews and transcripts gathered by Sydney-based author Stuart Coppock, the son of a WWII veteran for the book titled ‘Just Doing our Duty’ - 7th Division Cavalry Regiment and 2/7th Australian Division Cavalry Regiment April 1940 to March 1943’.

Mr Coppack’s father was a veteran of the 2/7th Australian Division Cavalry Regiment, 2nd AIF. While editing the book, Mr Baines discovered in the work a story about Padre Francis John Hartley (19091971) born in Rutherglen who had served in the Regiments too.

“Padre Hartley had also published an account of his experiences in New Guinea in October 1942 to Jan 1943

in a small book titled ‘Sanananda Interlude’ (1949) where excerpts had been taken for the recent book,” he said.

With the church disrupted by the outbreak of World War 2 the Methodist clergyman had been appointed chaplain in the Australian Imperial Force on 22 August 1941.

Padre Hartley joined the 7th Division Cavalry Regiment in the Middle East in 1941, returning with them to Australia in 1942 and was deployed with them to Port Moresby as garrison troops.

With the Regiment, he was flown over the Owen Stanley Ranges and fought along the Sanananda Track from Popondetta to the Buna Beachhead in New Guinea from 18 December1942 to 24 January-1943.

After evacuation to Australia and recuperation, he became a senior chaplain in the 7th Division headquarters in New Guinea from 1943-1944.

His book ‘Sanananda Interlude’ documents the tragedy, danger and comradeship of the campaign.

Mr Baines said the Ru-

therglen-born padre had made a huge contribution when serving in the war.

Rutherglen RSL subbranch president Craig Williams said history of the men from Rutherglen is often unknown unless someone through their research brings it to someone’s attention.

“The padre’s history is a significant contribution to Rutherglen RSL and its part of RSL history,” he said.

Mr Baines said $10,000 funding had been received from the Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) to publish and distribute the book about soldiers’ stories to veterans’ descendants, appropriate armoured corps units and state and federal libraries.

Australian Armoured Corps organisations had also provided funding of $3000.

Mr Baines said former Beechworth historian and author Richard Patterson had been fundamental in formatting the book.

“The book was completed earlier this month and published and distributed last week,” he said.

LOCAL premises could order fibre to the premises (fttp) NBN connections and realise download speeds of up to 1000 megabits per second (Mbps) by December 2023, according to Federal Minister for Communications, Paul Fletcher.

While local NBN customers currently struggle to get speeds of 100Mbps, Mr Fletcher has promised to make NBN speeds and mobile coverage better for Australians under a $1.3 billion plan to improve services.

While visiting Wangaratta, alongside Liberal Indi candidate Ross Lyman this week, Mr Fletcher said the government has a whole suite of upgrades planned for areas such as Indi, including faster download and upload speeds for fttp, fibre to the node (fttn), and fixed wireless connections.

They will continue to work through the implementation of a $4.5b upgrade to NBN, which began in 2020.

“By the end of 2023 there will be eight million premises that will be able to order a speed of up to 1000 megabits per second,” Mr Fletcher said.

“Within that eight million will be a footprint of

two million premises today that are fibre to the node, where if they order a speed that needs fibre to the premises their home will be upgraded to that.

Last month the Coalition committed $480m in the 2022/23 budget towards a $750m project (NBN to pay balance) that will upgrade the NBN fixed wireless network.

Across Australia 120,000 people will be able to move from satellite to fixed wireless, with 750,000 households able to be serviced by fixed wireless.

“Today the top speed is 50 megabits per second and everybody will be able to get up to 100Mbps and 85 per cent up to 250Mbps,” Mr Fletcher said.

“Upload speeds will also double from 10 to 20Mbps for fixed wireless, something that is important for businesses and the growing use of cloud based file systems for accounting and other applications.

“We are very clear about the 18,000 premises in Indi that are served by fixed wireless today that are going to see improvements in material services over the next couple of years.”

Mr Fletcher made the point to say having a Liberal MP for Indi will give streamlined communica-

tion to an elected Coalition government.

“As we develop the detailed rules in relation to the remaining $800 million of funding, that is where the advocacy of somebody deeply grounded in his community as Ross (Lyman) will be, and is going to be, very important,” he said.

“We’ve got a practical, detailed costed plan to update services around the country including her in Indi and Wangaratta.

“Ross Lyman has been very clear to me the needs of businesses and households in his community that broadband is so essential in so many ways.”

Mr Lyman said he’s heard from people in the electorate just how important communications and connectivity is.

“Since the Coalition has been in government they have funded 51 towers in the region, with 44 in the network and the majority with battery life that last 12 hours, particularly critical in emergency situations,” he said.

Mr Fletcher also spoke off a $411 million plan to rollout 8000km of continuous mobile coverage on highways around Australia to improve mobile connectivity and range.

By CORAL COOKSLEY A RIDE to school with a difference marked this year’s National Ride2School Day by a Beechworth Montessori primary school student.

Ruby Brough rode her horse to school from Wooragee accompanied by her mother Rachel Bohm on her horse on Friday, March 25 while other students made a trip to start their day by walking, cycling, scooting or skating to school.

Montessori students joined more than 350,000 students across Australia on the day for the annual Bicycle Network’s National Ride2School Day that has run since 2006 to help create healthy habits through active travel.

Among the program’s aims is to

help children get their 60 minutes of daily exercise.

Montessori’s Cycle 3 assistant Asha Dilkes-Hoffman said the event had been a great turn-out with bike racks overflowing with bikes and scooters.

“Students, parents and staff enjoyed an outdoor breakfast once everyone had arrived,” she said.

Rachel said it had been lovely to say good morning to a few locals along the way out for a walk and a cycle.

“Being able to introduce a number of kids to horses for the first time when we arrived at school was an extra special bonus too,” she said.

Rachel also promotes that horses, walkers, prams and bikes can co–exist on shared trails around Indigo Shire.

RECENT articles in the O&M Advertiser regarding Indigo Shire Council’s refusal to consider the refurbished Beechworth Railway Goods Shed as a new home for the historic Carriages Collection have stated that council’s reason is that ‘considerable federal and council money had been put into the refurbishment on the understanding that it would be a commercial tenant’.

Council’s press release of June 2018 estimated a boost to the economy of $6.5 million and creation of 21 jobs, 19 full time, after three years.

The release also said it would be ‘a great place to stop for food, drinks, bike maintenance and bike storage’ etc.

The prevailing impression is that a commercial tenant is what council is ‘required to do by terms of the funding arrangement’.

However, is this an accurate assumption?

The premise on which the federal grant was sought and acquired on the one hand, and council’s actual requirement to account for the number of jobs in acquittal of the loan on the other hand are two different matters altogether.

In reply to a question regarding acquittal arrangements in the Open Forum section of the May 26, 2020 council meeting, the CEO stated ‘When we do get these

types of grants we are required to report back to the grant provider on certain elements and acquit those grants. The ongoing jobs it creates are not one of our reporting requirements so we don’t propose to report on that’.

The National Trust requires a secure building where the collection (previously stored in the Goods Shed) can be housed, repaired ,conserved and digitised etc.

The addition of an internal modular office for their staff’s work and comfort is surely not an impossible task?

WW1 husband and wife rest in peace together THE Beechworth Cemetery Trust has submitted another WW1 veteran story for general public interest.

This particular editorial has some significance for the ANZAC occasion as one of the subjects, Corporal George Booley, was part of the second wave that went ashore at Gallipoli on ANZAC Day according to trust chairperson Rosemary Barnett.

Ms Barnett said the other remarkable factor in this story is that Corporal Booley married a locally born WW1 Army Nurse, Wilhelmena Wells, who treated him in France.

Their marriage took place in 1920.

“Both husband and wife are buried together in our facility, a possible rarity for WW1 veterans,” Ms Barnett said.

This is their story.

Australian Army Nurse Wilhelmena Emelah (Mena) Wells was born at Baarmutha on the outskirts of Beechworth in 1885.

She was the second of three daughters of William and Virginia Wells.

After local schooling, she pursued a career in Nursing.

At the end of March 1917 age 32, Mena enlisted for active duty with the Australian Army Medical Corps as an Army Nurse.

She departed Melbourne in April 1917 aboard Troop Ship “Karoola” as part of Convoy 31.

The vessel’s contingent consisting of 50 nurses and they arrived at Avonmouth, Bristol in mid-June1917.

Two weeks later, Sister Wells crossed the English Channel for France and reported for duty at the 25th British General Hospital at Hardelot-Plage, France.

This medical facility was staffed predominantly with Australian nurses who treated the wounded and dying from the conflict raging on the Western Front.

In February 1918, Mena was admitted to the 14th General Hospital, Winereux, France, suffering from influenza.

After the cessation of hostilities in November 1918 and her return to England, Mena was appointed as Matron-in-Charge of the 1st Australian General Hospital, Sutton Veny, Wiltshire, England.

Sister Wells returned home to Australia aboard Hospital Transport “Ormonde”, arriving in Melbourne on Boxing Day 1919.

Mena died on Christmas day 1966 aged 80 years old.

Australian Army Corporal George Wesley Booley was the second of five children of George (Senior) and Maria Booley.

He was born in 1889 at Kew, Melbourne.

At age 25, George enlisted in the 1st A.I.F. in August 1914.

He was assigned to the 5th Battalion and after two months training, the unit sailed from Melbourne aboard the Troopship “Orvieto”.

Following extensive training in Egypt, George formed part of the second wave of the initial attacks at Anzac Cove, Gallipoli,

fighting against the Turks.

During the landing, he was wounded with a bullet to the ankle resulting in him being invalided back to Egypt.

Private Booley returned to the Gallipoli fighting, including the battle of Lone Pine, before allied forces were evacuated back to Egypt at the end of 1915.

In March 1916, George and his battalion sailed from Alexandria, Egypt to join the British Expeditionary Force and the fighting on the Western Front.

In March 1917, George Booley was promoted to the rank of Corporal.

The battalion was involved in the fighting at Pozieres, Ypres and the German withdrawal back to the Hindenburg Line.

George returned to Melbourne aboard the Troopship “Port Sydney” in late November 1918.

He was discharged from active duty on the 6th March 1919.

He died at Cowra in September 1982 aged 92 years.

Mena treated a young Australian Corporal, George Booley from Ouyen, Victoria.

Obviously, there was a mutual attraction as upon their independent returns to Australia, they married in 1920.

The couple lived on the Booley property in Ouyen

and had a stillborn son and two daughters.

Mena and George are buried together in the Independent Section against the main pathway leading to the historic rotunda of the Beechworth Cemetery.

Mena’s parents and other family members are also buried close by.

Labor to introduce National AntiCorruption Commission by Christmas THE Australian Labor Party has promised a National Anti-Corruption Commission by the end of 2022, according to Labor’s candidate for Indi, Nadia David.

Labor leader Anthony Albanese has confirmed that a National Anti-Corruption Commission would be one of the first priorities of an incoming Labor government.

“A National Anti-Corruption Commission is a key issue for Australians, particularly in Indi,” Ms David said.

“Without a National AntiCorruption Commission, we will just see more rorts and

serious and systemic corruption.”

Ms David, a former NSW Police prosecutor, said Labor’s National Anti-Corruption Commission would be like a standing Royal Commission with a broad jurisdiction to investigate ministers and public servants, with complete independence from government.

The commissioner will be appointed for a fixed term, with security of tenure similar to a federal judge, and will have the power to investigate allegations of serious and systemic corruption both before and after its es-

tablishment.

The National Anti-Corruption Commission will have the power to hold public hearings if the commission determines it’s in the public interest to do so, and to refer findings of corrupt conduct that may amount to criminal conduct to the relevant Director of Public Prosecutions for action.

“This is a strong anticorruption body that will be properly funded and will frankly have a big job on its hands after years of the Morrison Government operating as though it is above the law,” Ms David said.

Open night showcases Beechworth Secondary College

By CORAL COOKSLEY BEECHWORTH Secondary College staff and students showcased the school’s state-of-the-art facilities at an open night held earlier this month.

Around 60 families with prospective students as well as grandparents, past students and teachers from some primary schools joined in.

Among families with primary school students drawn to the two hour event were those from Barnawartha, Middle Indigo, Yackandandah, Stanley, Tarrawingee, Everton, Wooragee, Chiltern and Beechworth.

Activities on the night that hooked younger children included drama dress-ups, experiments, games in the library, table tennis, music, trying on the abseiling rigs, insights into French and talks about wellbeing and pathways.

Others included information on the Montessori Adolescent Program (MAP), history quizzes, an English competition, interesting food samples from students and the new food technology teacher and artist along with a lucky prize draw on the night.

College principal Patricia Broom said families new to the area had been surprised by the school’s standard, its size and the large scope of offerings to students.

“A number of families had not been to the school since 2019, and were very impressed with its transformation with new buildings, renovations and the extensive green spaces,” she said.

“We also featured design updates for the extensive renovations for the gym that are about to begin, ready for next year.

“The science area is always popular for primary school students, along with the new computer lab, trying the VR-Virtual Reality goggles, 3-D printer with the library also a drawcard with many new books, magazines and comfortable reading nooks.

“Visitors mentioned that the large number of teachers and students available to speak to on the night had been engaging with their professional presentations.”

Ms Broom said she had been delighted with the number of people who took the time to indicate how much they enjoyed the experience at the college.

“With a number of families with year five and six students looking for future secondary schools, it’s looking good for the college’s future,” she said.

FULL CIRCLE: Beechworth’s Fiona Wigg’s vast experience in the wine industry helps the next generation of viticulturists through her teaching.

Community diversity at risk with lack of affordable housing FIONA Wigg was born in London, Great Britain while her Australian parents were travelling the world.

She grew up in Melbourne and lived in various parts of Victoria before moving to Beechworth 16 years ago.

What’s your job?

I currently teach the Diploma of Viticulture at GOTAFE and own a small vineyard called Madman’s Gully in Silver Creek.

What brought you to this role?

I’ve been part of the wine industry for about 30 years in many roles including managing Seppelt Great Western vineyard, phylloxera research, consultancy and project management for wine industry bodies.

I also worked in the climate adaptation space developing adaptation plans for local government.

Teaching feels like I’ve come full circle where I’m putting my knowledge and experience to good use for the next generation of viticulturists.

What do you love about your job?

Gaining a qualification can change someone’s life and to see my students move on to better career opportunities brings me great joy.

At home I love working among the vines, watching the seasons change, and sharing a bottle of my wine with friends and family.

What do you do in the community?

I’m the president of the Beechworth Food Co-operative which underwent significant upheaval with the closure of the food store in the Old Railway Building. We’re now focused on advocacy for local growers and short food supply chains, and supporting people to develop capacity to access and grow local food through events such as the recent Patch to Patch.

What’s the most important current community issue for you?

Lack of affordable housing in the area is making it difficult for our children to return to the community they grew up in and risks making us a less diverse community.

What would you do to solve, change or improve that situation?

Change can be driven by communities having conversations, developing solutions and advocating for action by councillors and politicians.

What’s the most important current world issue for you?

The lack of an urgent response to the threat of climate change is deeply frustrating.

The pandemic response has shown that swift, co-ordinated action is possible from the countries who are the largest polluters yet entrenched interests continue to stymie action that might prevent us from reaching climate tipping points.

If the person you would most like to meet came to Indigo, or was already here, who would that be and what would you show them?

I’d show my grandfather Jack Herrick, who passed away in 1998, the productive lands, clean rivers and forests that make this such a beautiful environment, and the people who make this such a kind and caring community to live among.

Why would you show him that?

He lived a hard life on the land as a young man, surviving the Great Depression by catching rabbits, and World War II as a Rat of Tobruk.

It would please him to see his descendants living a much easier life where food is plentiful and people live in peace.

AGM scheduled for local Landcare Group THE Hodgson and Horseshoe Creeks Landcare Group, which has been active in securing grant funding for several exciting local projects, is preparing for its May 1 annual general meeting, to be held at Everton.

The group’s current Victorian Landcare Grant is set to deliver events covering climate adaptation and resilience, native seed collection, the history and flora of the Everton Bushland Reserve, and improving habitat in the landscape, which will include plants and guards for group members.

The $14,000 grant will be complemented by in-kind contributions of $7500, for a total project value of $21,500.

President Murray Bennett is pleased the group has also just signed a new agreement for an $8250 Soil Health Community Grant, which will support the creation of soil acidity monitoring sites for sub-surface and sub-soil acidity, community workshops discussing the outcome, and a soil biology webinar.

Several members are currently participating in the Smart Farm Small Grant pro-

ject, in its fourth round, undertaking works that will protect paddock trees and waterways.

The group is proudly supported by Everton Farm Supplies, offering financial members for the 2022 year a one-off $10 discount on their purchases up to June 30, 2022 (2022 membership invoices will be issued soon).

This year’s AGM will be held on the evening of Sunday, May 1 in the Everton Hall from 5pm, and will include a dinner provided by REMEL 185, and a guest speaker.

Golden Horseshoes Festival’s big comeback with happy crowd

By CORAL COOKSLEY LOCAL residents and visitors to Beechworth from near and far arrived in droves on a perfect day autumn day for the town’s biggest event on the annual calendar, the Golden Horseshoes Festival last weekend.

For the first time in three years the main event held on Saturday with a full parade drew an estimated crowd of around 13,000 people.

The following year had been cancelled as a COVID pandemic casualty and last year a small version of the festival ran without the parade.

Thrilled volunteer organising committee chair Jim Didolis said everything came together with the festival attracting a sensational, appreciative and happy crowd.

“It was opening the door to normal festivals after COVID and we showed how it can be done,” he said.

“It’s a significant time of the year with combination of school holidays and Easter when people visit the region and they want something like this.”

With the parade celebrating the town’s history and its community, Mr Didolis said the community including businesses contributed.

“And where else can you see a horse shod with golden shoes as the story is told with a commentary,” he said.

As the story goes, a candidate in the 1855 campaign to elect a parliamentarian for Ovens goldfield communities to Victoria’s Legislative Council, Daniel Cameron, argued for better conditions on the diggings and paraded into

Beechworth on a horse shod in solid gold.

Mr Didolis said new program events - Welcome to Country, the Damu Dance Company, Hung Hing Lion Dancers Association, the reenactment by the 8th Indi Light Horse Troop and the night Lantern Market in the Chinese Gardens had been well received by the supportive crowd.

The activities added to an action-packed program of family enjoyment and an exciting time.

Uncle Dozer Atkinson, a Moiraduban clan elder of the Bpangerang Nation and from the Damu Dance Company, said participating in the festival helped Bpangerang people gain recognition that has been sought for many years.

“Bringing young generations back on country to Beechworth and having cultural performances is something that elders strive for and we definitely want to keep our culture alive,” he said.

“Our culture now belongs to all Australians and we should perform it that way.”

Beechworth farrier Phil Kirkham, who shod the horse with its rider that led the parade, had undertaken the special task many years ago.

“Born and bred in Beechworth it’s nice to be part of celebrating history,” he said.

Hung Hing Lion Dance Association spokesperson Chris Trang said it had been a privilege to be to be in Beechworth with its Chinese history and for the Melbourne-based group to be invited.

Indigo Shire mayor Bernard Gaffney said the new program events for the community festival run by volunteers had been a great highlight as well as so many people participating in the parade.

“Everyone at the festival was so happy with smiles on their faces,” he said.

“With accommodation people seemed to arrive earlier and stay later.”

“It’s a real good news story and has been a huge boost for the community and the local economy.”

Mr Didolis said he Golden Horseshoes Festival team is looking forward to another great festival next year.

With a small band of hard working committee members and volunteers to make the event happen, he looked forward to more volunteers joining in.

Golf’s big day for RCH Appeal A FANTASTIC day was had last Friday for the Beechworth Golf Club’s Annual Good Friday Golden Putter fundraiser.

Sixty-four players took part, which was the biggest in recent memory.

Thanks to everyone’s donations, raffle money and competition fees we raised a huge amount of $1911.80 passing last year’s record total.

Hollie Goodwin made it two wins in a row winning the women’s event with a score of 95/29/66, Debbie Tully was runner up with a score of 94/26/68.

Glenda Marshall came third with 89/18/71.

In the non-handicap event Greg Lee-Conway won the day with a score of 83, Lachy

Milhinch was runner up with 85 and Jake Biddulph came third at 86.
