Parks plan in place AN outpouring of community concern around draft masterplans for four caravan parks throughout the shire has resulted in change to the Lake Sambell 10-year-plan. The masterplans, outlining concepts for Lake Sambell, Chiltern’s Lake Anderson, Yackandandah Holiday Park and Rutherglen Caravan Park received a total of 99 submissions during a four-week exhibition period in September, 89 of which were lodged regard-

ing Lake Sambell. The masterplans were formally adopted at Tuesday night’s Indigo Shire Council meeting, following changes to the Lake Sambell plan which will scrap six large cabins initially planned for

the lake’s hillside, as well as the realignment of the masterplan to operate within current lease boundaries. In tabling the motion, Cr Emmerick Teissl said the expansion of the shire’s caravan parks was a major tourist drawcard for the region. “The caravan park (masterplan) is aspirational and demonstrates Indigo Shire Council’s commitment to

growing our tourism market and providing better amenity for them,” he said. “We are an expanding tourism market - not only are we competing locally against other councils, but Australia-wide now. “Many rural councils and even metro councils now invest in tourism and with this plan we will be better able to cater for what we hope is an

expanding market.” Outlined by consulting company ODIN360, the projects are forecast to create 33 new jobs during construction and a further 27 ongoing jobs, with the total cost of the project reaching $18.5m, some $13.4m of which is expected to be contributed by private leaseholders and $5.1m from council. ■ Continued page 7
