It followed a recommendation being passed at the Indigo Shire Council monthly meeting on June 28 to request the Department of Transport to investigate a

Council will also ask the department to present it with a further report for final decision, including detailed concept designs and supporting evidence that the community is supportive. “The Department of
Transport recently briefed council with proposals to introduce new safety improvements through traffic calming, streetscape and intersection improvements and better pedestrian crossing points,” Mr Ierino said in the latest Indigo Shire Weekly Update. “Finding a solution to removing trucks from Ru-
therglen’s Main Street spans decades and despite the many options that have been put forward over the years, there’s simply no easy answer, without some compromise. “Council has been working with Regional Roads Victoria, which is responsible for the road, to find a solution that is supported by the
community and key stakeholders. “The latest proposal, which focusses on safety improvements in Main Street, could be the way forward, however, council wants to ensure that this is well supported by the community before it grants approval. ■ Continued page 2
