Walk, talk and support HUNDREDS of thousands of steps will be taken when this year’s three-day walk for suicide awareness sets off from Beechworth to Bright towards the end of this month. Nor-for-profit Beechworth to Bridge (B2B) has an ongoing goal to crush suicide stigma, help healing and promote depression as treatable for suicide prevention Founder Lisa Cartledge said around 350 walkers with the number similar to last year are expected to take part with registrations closing at midnight next Tuesday, March 15. In encouraging people to join in, Lisa said being super fit is not on the agenda. “It’s a walk, talk and support event and we have a support bus that will be with us all the time so walkers can take a spell on the bus if they want a break,” she said. “Mads, our trusty driver, will entertain anyone who

wants to jump on the bus, you can jump on or off as many times as you like.” “We have fun while working and walking towards removing the stigma that surrounds suicide and mental ill health so that we can all be reminded that “it ain’t weak to speak” and it’s okay to remember and reminisce those who we’ve loved and lost.” Lisa said as people know someone who has been touched by suicide or mental ill health in one way of another, it is nice to know that others care, understand and they are not alone. “It’s about being kind to each other and ourselves where you can choose to walk and talk, or you can enjoy the walk lost in your own thoughts and still be supported,” she said. ■ Continued page 2
