Mental health boost ALBURY WODONGA Health (AWH) is set to receive close to a million dollars from the Victorian Government to upgrade facilities at the Willow Community Care Unit - a mental health care and rehabilitation unit run by the health organisation in Beechworth. Announced by the State Government on Tuesday, AWH has shared in $20 million among 31 mental healthcare and alcohol and drug services under the ‘Mental Health and Alcohol

and Other Drugs Facility Renewal Fund.’ Of the 45 projects that will be undertaken across the state, Albury Wodonga Health will receive $997,400 to renovate resident accommodation buildings. Funding will deliver new

activity and communal spaces, purpose built for both quiet one-on-one assessment, intervention, and group activities. The government’s aim is to strengthen support for Victorians through their mental health and drug and alcohol recovery journeys and to upgrade vital services needed. AWH interim chief executive Jane Chapman said the Willows provided a valuable

part of the health service with care and assistance to people who are either going in or out of hospital or where longer term support to help manage their condition is available too. “It’s a great residential environment,” she said. Ms Chapman said seven accommodation units will be upgraded along with a new purpose built activities centre that will allow for ad-

ditional structured programs where more support can be provided which is important for their rehabilitation. “It will give them skills they need to transition back into the community,” she said. “Having a refresh to be more modern will make for a more pleasant environment and it will provide so many more options.” ■ Continued page 2
