INTERNATIONALLY acclaimed skier, alpinist and adventurer Chris Davenport visited Mt Buller last week, supporting the launch of Protect Our Winters in Australia. Protect Our Winters – known as POW – is a movement driven by skiers like Davenport who care about winter and encourage positive change and education about climate. The Australian chapter was launched this month by a small collective of people based at Mt Buller motivated to promote POW’s message of protecting winter.

International skier and climate advocate visits Mt Buller to talk winter Ű

“We are skiers and snowboarders who live and work in the mountains and love these special places, lead advocate of the group Josh Fletcher said. “POW is a group of people who want to be able to enjoy alpine life and sports into the future and we need to make some changes if we want that to happen. Chris Davenport is a board member of POW International

and met with Buller Ski Lifts senior team, the Resort Management Board and chamber representatives on his visit. He spoke at a community event in the Mt Buller cinema about the work of POW and how communities and resorts can mobilise to bring about changes for the betterment of the environment. “It’s been a wonderful visit back to Australia and my ďŹ rst

time skiing at Mt Buller, said Chris. “I’m impressed by the terrain here and by the awareness and commitment the community here has on this issue. “I met with a great group of kids lucky enough to go to school up here on the mountain yesterday and it gives me hope when you hear their questions and see their enthusiasm to learn about our planet and get

out and explore the world. “I’ve spent my life in ski resorts and it’s always interesting to learn and see how different places operate. “Australia has such a unique and special alpine area - it’s been great to connect with people and see the innovation and drive that the resort community has here to create a sustainable future, he said. For more information on POW Australia and to get involved please go to Protect Our Winters Australia Facebook page or email staycool@protectourwinters.org.au.

Driving incidents highlight the need for caution Ű

MT Buller and Mt Stirling Resort Management apologised last week to the many people caught in lengthy delays on the Mt Buller road on the night of Friday, July 20. Continuing snowfalls throughout the day meant there were several periods when there was an unusual amount of accumulated snow on the road. Buses and 2WD vehicles were required to ďŹ t chains at Mirimbah throughout the day. One bus had difďŹ culty at Unnamed Corner, causing another to take evasive action, resulting in both buses becoming bogged on the side of the road. A third bus slid into an embankment further down the road at White Bridge. TrafďŹ c in both directions was halted several times to allow recovery vehicles to navigate their way through the heavy trafďŹ c to reach the scene, permit an ambulance carrying an injured skier off the mountain, and again as all three buses, one containing a group of school children, were returned to the road.

ICY: Several road incidents caused long holdups on Mt Buller recently.

“The children were safe and warm throughout the recovery effort and thankfully they all made it home safely,â€? Resort Management chief executive ofďŹ cer Mark Bennetts said. “The whole recovery took several hours to complete and we apologise to everyone who was patiently waiting above or below

the incident throughout the evening and into the night. “Our team worked with Victoria Police to control and reopen the road as quickly as possible. “Resort Management is also reviewing the events to try and reduce the chance of them occurring again, improve our response,

and keep people better informed if there are serious incidents along the road. These incidents highlight the importance of drivers knowing how to correctly fit and use their wheel chains, and the need for everyone to drive carefully in snowy and icy conditions.

New snow fleet boosts Buller response

NEW over-snow vehicles have boosted brigade morale and response capability at CFA’s Mt Buller fire brigades. Side-by-side vehicles fitted with snow tracks have been strategically placed around Mt Buller to improve transport options for CFA volunteer firefighters during winter. Capable of carrying five people, it will be used with regular tyres outside of the snow season. Operations manager Paul King, the regional commander of the Hume region which takes in the alpine region, said the new vehicles had been welcomed by volunteer firefighters.

“Volunteer firefighters at Mt Buller often work in jobs such as ski instructors, lift operators and in hospitality during the snow season. “It’s a big ask to expect them to also get up in the middle of the night, often during inclement weather, to attend a call-out and CFA is very proud and grateful for their service,” he said. “Previously, members often had to make their way to the station on foot, sometimes in the middle of a snow storm. “These new vehicles make it a little bit easier for them to get to the station to do their job and keep the communities safe – it’s the least we can do for them.”

Mr King recently led a delegation from CFA headquarters which visited the brigade to inform a new strategy for the alpine region. “CFA’s presence in the alpine region is vital due to the complex conditions, which include high-density accommodation and extreme weather, which makes it more difficult both to turn out to and fight fires and to evacuate large groups of people,” he said. “By meeting with members and seeing first-hand the conditions that they operate in, we can make sure that we are doing everything we can to support them now and into the future.”

Connor an eight year veteran on Buller NAME: Connor Fyfe. AGE: 16 years old. Where do you live? Adelaide, South Australia. Do you ski or snowboard? Ski. What level skills do you have? I would classify myself as an intermediate to expert skier - I enjoy skiing more difficult runs but definitely do not feel completely confident when the conditions aren’t perfect. How long have you been visiting Mt Buller? I started visiting Mt Buller back in 2010, meaning I’ve been coming up every year for about eight years. I started coming up here with a school group but eventually just started visiting independently when the school moved on because I loved the mountain so much.

Buller? If I had to choose, I would have to say Men’s Downhill. It’s always so quiet, and when the snow is good, the run is absolutely magnificent. Even when the conditions are less than favourable, the run is definitely a welcome challenge and always gives me ideas about how I can improve my form and technique. The moguls give my legs a run for their money. Favourite Apres venue and why? While my Apres Ski adventures are somewhat limited due to my age, I would say that Alpine Retreat is the place to go for a great time. The open mic nights are especially fantastic; everyone has a sing-along, a dance, and just a blast overall.

What are you looking forward to the most this season? If I get another chance to come up, I definitely would love to see the Pond Skim. I heard about some of the amazing entries last year and would love to be around for it this year. Do you ski anywhere else? I used to ski at Mt Hotham as a child with my family until I started coming up to Buller with my school. I’ve also skied in Austria and Japan, both of which were incredible, and I would highly recommend visiting. While the snow in those places may be better, nothing beats the familiarity of the mountain that I have in coming to Mt Buller. What’s your Favourite Run on

STICK ‘EM UP: Mark (Cricket) Osler in 1990 with the original Bourke Street snow gun.

MT Buller has led the way in Australia when it comes to snow making. In 2018 the total coverage skiable area is over 78 hectares. Remarkably, this represents 25 per cent of the resort and equates to 19km of trails. Snow making is now carried out at every available opportunity, dependent on suitable weather conditions. Buller Ski Lifts has eight full time employees in the department, six of who work nights. They control a total of 244 guns, of which 163 are automated. Our Mt Buller snow makers are producing 530,000 cubic metres of snow per season, led by snow making manager, Paul Richmond. The coverage area includes Bourke Street, Baldy, Skyline, Magic Forest, Chamois, Northside Discovery Area, Burnt Hut, Summit, Howqua, Howqua Extension, Family Run, Little Buller Spur, Whisky Creek Trail, Kofflers, Wombat, Chute, two toboggan parks, and Bonza Access Trail. It really is phenomenal, and will get even better in the years to come. In 1970 John Hilton Wood established a snow making pilot system on Enzian ski run and later moved it to Little Bourke Street. Gus Syme and Bob Bateup were involved in the design and installation. It was in 1990 that McMahon Holdings proceeded with the first stage of the present system and it was installed on Bourke Street with a temporary pump station near Faulty. It was a great season in 1992, with skiing through to Melbourne Cup weekend. However, 1993 was the opposite with the Mt Buller village shuttle having to transport skiers to the summit well into

MODERN TECH: Nowadays, the auto snow guns blaze in the early morning sunrise. PHOTO: Andrew Railton

August just to get a few turns. Back then the shuttle comprised a horse and cart. In 1994 the Grollo family assumed total control of the lifts and snow making with significant investment in infrastructure. This included the water storage dam, air compressors, pump station and distribution pipelines for compressed air and water. This investment increased the snow making to Baldy, Skyline, Summit, Little Buller Spur and Wombat ski runs. In 1995 the distribution system was expanded to include Howqua, Howqua extension and the lower section of Family Run. During 1997 and 1998, further coverage expansion included Chamois (and the newly created World Cup Aerial site), Burnt Hut beginner areas, Pole line #6 access trail and the Tube Park. With congestion growing in the LBS/Wombat area, in 1999 it was decided to expand operations down the Whisky Creek trail to Federation Chair. In 2001, snow making was extended down the Kofflers lift line from the top of Wombat Chair to ensure people could get out of the Summit area in low snow years. In 2002 fan guns were first mounted permanently on towers down Little Buller Spur. And in 2005, Shakey Knees had 20 auto York Borax guns installed. A year later similar automated equipment was installed on the Summit. In 2008 the six seater chair

was installed, now called Mercedes Benz Chair (yes, it has been almost a decade). At the same time four Polecats and one Super Polecat snow makers were installed right of Bourke Street. Also, two Polecats were purchased and installed for the RMB village toboggan run. Since then there have been a number of updates to automated guns on Wombat, Howqua Extension, Little Buller Spur, the Ski School Area, Family Run, Burnt Hut and Chute. Today, 163 of 244 guns are fully automated. The result is amazing. For example, an operator can now turn on around 60 guns in less than 10 minutes. Our Mt Buller snow makers are among the best in the world, recognised globally with work opportunities in many northern hemisphere destinations. Mt Buller is now using approximately 200 megalitres of water per season. Snow making on Mt Buller has been a massive collaboration between Buller Ski Lifts, Resort Management Board and the Mt Buller community. It has been driven by an enormous commitment by the Grollo family, right from the very time they took over the lift company. All skiers, boarders and snow play visitors have been the beneficiaries. Once we get our new water storage facility in 2019/20, stand by for major new developments on the south side of the resort. It will be fantastic.

IN a spectacular display of snowboarding prowess, Jye Kearney won his 6th Burton Cattleman’s Rail Jam at Mt Buller recently, asserting his dominance as the most prolific rider in Cattleman’s history.

The 13th Burton Cattleman’s Rail Jam

Kearney has competed at Mt Buller’s iconic snowboard event since he was 14 years old and his experience in the event truly shone through. He displayed a technical series of spins on and off both outer rails, and gaps

and tricks on the close-out rail, landing him top spot on the podium with a $4000 pay cheque for his efforts. Bryce Bugera travelled from Canada for the competition and took out second place, applying a fresh ap-

proach to the steep village stair set with impeccable style and consistency. Bryce secured his first international event podium on the night to the roars of an excited crowd. This year’s Best Trick was

awarded to Mansfield local Harry Green, who performed a huge, never-been-done manoeuvre: a backside 50-50 on the top close-out rail, backside 270 transfer to the lower rail. To non-snowboarders, that

is something very technical and not a move you should try at home off the couch. Over 60,000 viewers watched the action live online via the webcast, adding to the lively crowd in the Mt Buller Village for the spectacle.

Alpine hunters prosecuted for firearms PARKS Victoria has successfully prosecuted two men, one from Mansfield and the other from Yarck, for illegal possession of firearms in the Alpine National Park. Parks Victoria, Game Management Authority (GMA) and Victoria Police caught the men during a targeted enforcement operation in July 2017. The first man received a $927 fine, the second man a $980 fine. Both received a six-month Good Behaviour Bond, had their firearms seized and licences cancelled. “Firearms are only permitted within designated hunting areas during open hunting season,” stressed Martin Downs, regional enforce-

ment coordinator East Region. “Bringing a firearm into a national park outside these times is prohibited and offenders will be prosecuted. “All hunters need to be aware of hunting regulations and ensure they do the right thing. “The fines for breaching regulations can be hefty, and offenders also risk losing firearms and their firearms licence. “Illegal hunting can damage native flora and fauna and ruins the experience of visiting a park for other visitors.” Parks Victoria already prosecuted two men from the same hunting party in April this year.

Feral cats declared a pest THE State Government is acting to protect Victoria’s precious biodiversity and threatened wildlife by declaring the feral cat as an established pest animal. The declaration applies to areas of Crown land managed by the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, Parks Victoria, Phillip Island Nature Parks, and Victoria’s four Alpine Resorts. Minister for Energy, Environment and Climate Change Lily D’Ambrosio said “this declaration is an important milestone in the protection of Victoria’s threatened wildlife”. “Feral cats have a devastating impact on our native species and it’s important we manage them properly – that’s what this declaration will enable,” Ms D’Ambrosio said. Feral cat control will be implemented by department and agency staff and their agents to protect threatened wildlife most at risk from feral cats. A code of practice will be developed in consultation with animal welfare organisations to guide and develop best practice for feral cat management.

UNWANTED: Feral cats have been declared pests in Victoria’s four Alpine Resorts. Feral cats will not be declared as a pest animal on private land, meaning farmers and other private landholders will not be required to control feral cats. Private land owners will still be able to manage cats roaming on their property in accordance with current laws. Recreational hunters will not be permitted to hunt feral cats on Crown land, unless they are accredited volunteers operating in control programs managed by Parks Victoria or the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning. Feral cats are a threat to some of Victoria’s most critical-

ly-endangered native wildlife, such as the mountain-pygmy possum, helmeted honeyeater, orange-bellied parrot and plains wanderer. Feral cats are estimated to kill 466 million reptiles and 272 million birds in Australia every year. Government recently undertook public consultation on the proposed feral cat declaration. Over 1000 submissions were received, with more than 75 per cent of respondents supporting the declaration of feral cats as pests. For more information about the feral cat declaration go to environment.vic.gov.au.

Park rangers recognised on World Ranger Day THIS week, critical and enduring conservation work of park rangers was recognised on World Ranger Day. Rangers have been working throughout Victoria in various forms since the 1890s, when the state’s first national parks were established. Today, Parks Victoria rangers and field service officers care for 4.1 million hectares of mountains, deserts, forests and coastline – an area about the size of Switzerland: this includes the significant Alpine National Park and Mount Buffalo National Park. They also care for 13 national marine parks and 11 marine sanctuaries that support more than 12,000 species of plants and animals, 90 per cent of which are found nowhere else in the world. “Our rangers work throughout Victoria to protect our environment, our communities, and unique fauna and flora so that they remain healthy for our current and future generations,” Parks Victoria chief executive officer Matthew Jackson said. International Ranger Federation president Sean Willmore also paid tribute to our local rangers. “This is a special day for park rangers around the world, recognising their work and the risks they take each and every day in service of nature, conservation and life

itself,” he said. “I’d like to congratulate Parks Victoria’s rangers, and the Association of Rangers and Conservationists Victoria, for supporting their international colleagues, and for the fantastic work they do locally within that global context, to conserve their state’s natural treasures.” Each day is different for a Parks Victoria ranger. Their work includes: protecting parks, oceans, plants and animals from pests and pollution; maintaining thousands of kilometres of roads, tracks and trails, and campgrounds, toilets and visitor facilities; working with local community, research and volunteer groups; helping lost and injured people; and responding to bushfire and emergency situations. Last year, Parks Victoria

rangers welcomed more than 100 million visits to more than 180 parks and reserves; treated more than one million hectares of land to control pest plants and animals; and responded to nearly 200 lost or injured park visitors. As nature-based visitation has grown, and the size and challenges of the land being managed has increased, so too has the number of rangers. Parks Victoria now employs more than 400 rangers, including 40 Aboriginal rangers who provide invaluable traditional knowledge on keeping parks and reserves healthy and resilient. Internationally, World Ranger Day commemorates rangers killed or injured in the line of duty and celebrates their work to protect the planet’s natural treasures and cultural heritage.

Dave Blunden shares his love for the High Country from the air

By SAM ROUGET

AFTER being born in Foster, a small Gippsland town, in 1965 Dave Blunden realised that the High Country is where he belongs and moved to MansďŹ eld in 1989 where he has since spent 29 years. “I made the big move with my dog and horse,â€? said the 53-year-old. “I spent a lot of time at Tidal River growing up. “I may have moved away from that pretty place, but the High Country was always my calling.â€? Dave was fortunate enough to have a childhood that consisted of ďŹ shing, hiking and playing in the “backyardâ€?, which was Tidal River, with his four siblings, while his

parents ran the local general store. “Growing up where I did has given me the adventurous spirit I have now – we had the whole place to ourselves.â€? Dave is the youngest of ďŹ ve children, with three older brothers and one older sister. Dave met his wife Kath in a Yarra Valley winery 13 years ago, and are now married with two children. Currently the family of four are in the process of refurbishing the kitchen in their 150year old house. “The children we have are adorable,â€? he said. “They take up such a big part of your life and it’s so easy to get caught up in the daily routine of taking them to and from school.

“I’m not always here for it because of my job, but it’s really good to spend time with your kids over the holidays.â€? Occasionally the family head up to Mount Buller to enjoy the snow, but haven’t had a lot of time due to Dave’s job. “I work 10 hour days most of the week,â€? he said. Dave is an appliance technician and spends his time servicing white goods such as washing machines, dishwashers and fridges. On the side, he runs his helicopter charter business from MansďŹ eld. “We have a helicopter based here in MansďŹ eld and we do ights over the High Country,â€? he said. “There’s reasonable demand for ights during win-

ter, but usually we only y two days a week due to all the cloud and conditions that make it dangerous to y. Like passengers, he is overwhelmed by the beauty of the Victorian Alps. “I love sharing the country with my passengers,â€? he said. “They see it from a whole new perspective. “Australia has a lot of great things to see, but what we have here is so special – it changes across all seasons. “We’ve got a mixed bag of goodies.â€? Dave said that his aviation training program consisted of rules, regulations, practical tests, theory and ight tests and exams, and medical requirements. “It was quite a number of

years after doing training that I became a public charter,â€? he said. “People who jump on board with us expect to be safe and fully protected and speciďŹ c conditions have to be met.â€? After ďŹ nally getting into his own business, Dave was overjoyed to be able to buy his own aircraft. “It is very full on – I keep myself busy,â€? he said. However, in his spare time, Dave enjoys spending time at Bonnie Doon, riding his horse and car racing. “I was in Targa High Country last year and I do all my own work on my car,â€? he said. “I don’t look for adrenaline when I y a helicopter – that’s better suited to me in a race car on a track.

“I’ve always been mechanically minded. Dave’s apprenticeship training consisted of a lot of mechanical training which is where he has learnt a lot of his skills, but he also claims to have picked them up along the way. “When I was a teenager I was always pulling apart lawn mowers, chainsaws and the like, he said. “It’s saved me a lot of money and has enabled me to afford to do what I do. “I like to get it right – I’m really fussy about how things get put together. “When I was younger it was all about motorbikes and go-karts – you can see where my love for motorsports has stemmed from.

Chicks with Stix return GIRLS are different to boys, but big mountains, mogul bumps, the half-pipe, aerial kickers and ski x burns and jumps don’t differentiate. It’s ‘one-size ďŹ ts all’ and it can be daunting, which is why Chicks with Stix will be back for another year on the Aussie slopes for the 2018 season. It has been a cold snow season so far - so hopefully that means there will be lots of snow for each session, where Chicks with Stix get together to have some fun, make friends, learn some new skills and push each other to go bigger, higher and better in a supportive all-female environment. Chicks with Stix is a grassroots organisation that was founded in 2010 in Australia by a bunch of like-minded, passionate snow loving chicks. Chicks with Stix aim to ease the pain, and believe that in a friendly group scenario you can easily push yourself a little more with needed encouragement and opportunities. If you are a female who is conďŹ dent on blue runs (intermediate to advanced) and looking to progress your skills, then these Chicks with Stix sessions are for you, as you can learn to push yourself a little more. What you NEED TO KNOW about driving this winter.

Numerous types of tyres are used for winter driving, each with varying, and often misunderstood, levels of safety and performance. 3PMSF WINTER TYRES EXPLAINED Winter or snow tyres that receive WKH RIĂ€FLDO VQRZĂ DNH PDUNLQJ also known as the 3PMSF ‘3 Peak Mountain Snow Flake’ symbol, SURYLGH YHULĂ€HG VDIHW\ IRU GHPDQGLQJ VQRZ FRQGLWLRQV 7KH GHĂ€QLWLRQ RI D ZLQWHU W\UH LV VWDWHG LQ WKH European ECE regulation 117.02. Compared to M+S tyres, 3PMSF winter tyres offer superior braking and cornering performance on wet and rough ice, soft and hard-packed snow, and slush. A tyre without the 3PMSF marking cannot be marketed as a snow tyre or a winter tyre.

ALL TERRAIN/OFF ROAD TYRES EXPLAINED Tyres marketed as AT Tyres (All-Terrain/Mud-Terrain/ Off Road) are not winter tyres even though some may display the 3PMSF symbol. An AT tyre complying with the FMVSS 139 requirements (1 test method) do not comply with the UNECE R117 (3 test methods) because these regulations have a totally different set of characteristics. This is easy to understand as AT tyres have little, or no, siping. Sipings are the thin slits across a tread surface, that improve traction in snow and icy conditions HOW WET SNOW SLUSH AFFECTS DRIVING An icy road surface is not always the cause of the problems on alpine roads, deep wet snow slush can easily turn a driver into a passenger. On a wet country road hydroplaning or aquaplaning is dangerous. However slush planing, that can occur when driving on wet soft snow on alpine roads, is even more dangerous. When slush planing occurs you cannot steer, or brake, the vehicle because the tyre loses contact with the road even at very low speed. The combination of deep slushy melting snow, a layer

of water on the road surface, and possibly ice can make driving extremely dangerous, even for the most experienced driver. Slush has a higher viscosity than ZDWHU WKHUHIRUH LV SDVWLHU DQG FDQQRW à RZ WKURXJK WKH tyre tread channels as easily as water. The tread pattern of an M+S tyre will not disperse this wet snow slush from underneath the tyre. The contact between the tyre and the road will be lost, and so will the grip. USING SNOW CHAINS Snow chains are designed to allow a vehicle to climb a gradient that is beyond the grip level of the tyres. State regulations require all vehicles in Victoria, and 2WDs in NSW, to carry wheel chains that can be correctly ÀWWHG WR \RXU W\UHV ZKHQ UHTXLUHG 7KH 2ZQHUV Manual of your vehicle will detail what wheel and tyre FRPELQDWLRQV DUH DSSURYHG IRU WKH ÀWWLQJ RI ZKHHO chains. In order for wheel chains to work effectively they must penetrate into the compacted snow surface to provide the maximum amount of traction. Traction may be lost and wheel spin experienced when the snow and/or ice begins to break up and melts to slush - this is what causes chain wear. In these situations the vehicle can slide on the wheel chains. PERFORMING A TRACTION TEST Here is a safe way to determine how much tyre grip is available for any vehicle when driving in challenging winter conditions. When it is safe to do so, at a safe speed, and, making sure that no one is close behind you, apply the brakes ÀUPO\ XQWLO WKH ZKHHOV ORFN XS DQG WKH $%6 LV DFWLYDWHG Keep the brake pedal pressed down until the vehicle stops completely. This will give you a clear indication of the grip available at that particular point in time. You can repeat this test to continually monitor grip in different conditions. This simple test procedure will indicate the grip level of your tyres and highlight the need for correct 3PMSF winter tyres for safer winter driving.

M+S TYRES EXPLAINED The M+S symbol on tyres is very misleading. It’s a declaration from the tyre manufacturer that the product can operate in mud and snow better than their regular models. However, there is no performance standard or traction/stopping tests to pass as the M+S designation refers only to the tread pattern.

Tyres with M+S marking are not associated with any mandatory performance test and there is no performance guarantee associated with M+S marked tyres. The M+S marking are based on a tyre’s geometry and not how well it does on tests actually driving in mud or snow. Mt Buller Property...

LIKE HOT CAKES: Whitehorse Village has recorded a staggering 15 sales from $1,500,000 to $2,780,000 over the last eight months.

Mt Buller real estate roundup MT BULLER is now the Australian market leader in Alpine sales that are sold “off the plan”. Whitehorse Village has recorded a staggering 15 sales from $1,500,000 to $2,780,000 over the last eight months. There is now only one Whitehorse 3 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom with garage, ski in ski out chalet left, which is ready for immediate sale and occupation at $1,550,000. The recently completed block number 5 comprises three 6-star chalets, each of which are fitted out to a level

unheard of in Alpine Australia. These chalets, which are also 3 bed, 2.5 bathrooms plus garage, will rent in the order of $2500 - $3500 per week. The great news continues for “off the plan” sales for Mt Buller, with Kooroora now reporting the entire top floor and all of level 1 being spoken for, with only 5 apartments remaining between levels 2 and 3. That is 75 per cent of Kooroora sold in 12 days. The separate car parks, which are for sale within

LEGEND REBORN: Set in the heart of the Buller Village Square, Kooroora is a collection of 21 boutique residences which connect the rich history of Mt Buller with renewed life.

Kooroora, have also had a run on and have been selling very quickly at $100,000 per space. Many owners of other real estate on the mountain are

picking these car parks up so they can have access to the mountain during winter time – an absolute must if you don’t want to go on the over snow transport.

It is interesting – the buyers in Kooroora and Whitehorse are all individuals/families that have been associated with Mt Buller for years. Many of our purchasers

have been taking the opportunity of upgrading their accommodation on the mountain to suit the changing needs of their families. In fact, we have grandparents upgrading their properties so as to provide for grandchildren, as skiing is one of those family sports that everyone can still do together. In John Castran’s 35 years of selling Alpine real estate, there has never been such a feeding frenzy for AAA located properties – no wonder, Mt Buller is only three hours from Melbourne.
